Job Description
Primary Purpose


Provides visibility in the Public Interest sector for the Office of Career and Professional Development. Generates and oversees public interest and pro bono initiatives, projects, administration, planning and outcomes, coordinating as necessary with other departments and other OCPD staff, as well as external organizations. Develops understanding of and becomes conversant in competencies and skills, knowledge, abilities relevant to Public Interest jobs and careers, and coordinates with Assistant Dean to ensure thorough and complete communications to internal and external clients, students, and others. Develops, and facilitates projects and initiatives in the Public Interest Sector that affect student professional development, student employment, and graduate employment. Seeks out and provides public interest and pro bono engagement opportunities to students, graduates, and alumni to inform, empower, and supply the tools needed to achieve individual career success.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Builds OCR Public Sector effectiveness, timing, and features, integrating pro bono projects and activities.
  • Establishes Public Interest as a segment of career opportunities and recruiting activities, within the Stetson Law Community:
  • Establishes relationships that benefit students as well as public interest organizations.
  • Ensures student engagement with public interest organizations by producing events, opportunities, mentoring programs, projects, and professional identity development activities.
  • Develops comprehensive contact list that includes both hiring manager (HR) and pro bono supervisor and maintains list currency.
  • Develops relationships, broad and deep understanding of the markets, best practices in recruiting and selection, and the client populations served within the sector.
  • Addresses JD Advantage jobs as/when a subset of Public Interest.
  • Integrates pro bono activities and projects with recruiting interests and relevant exploratory experiential opportunities.


Interfaces with Public Interest employers to identify skill and competency building needs and opportunities for students and graduates to prepare for relevant careers.


  • Originates, develops, and leads interactive workshops, seminars, and group meetings to build student professional, career, and job acquisition skills and competencies, and to identify opportunities to serve student and alumni career needs.
  • Ensures that public interest employer standards are understood and met and communicated regularly to

  • Stays abreast of trends and changes in the dynamic legal labor market.
  • Builds and maintains strong working relationships with faculty, as well as other staff departments and
  • Builds coaching strength, coaches and motivates students and graduates to achieve career goals.
  • Maintains a collaborative work environment and works well with others.
  • Develops and delivers skill-building workshops and group projects, including MBTI, to help students and alumni accelerate personal career development.
  • Leads initiatives to counsel and mentor students and alumni through job- search efforts and career transitions, focusing specifically on the public interest and government sectors, and JD Advantage positions and employers. Designs and implements short- and long-range strategies and plans to encourage student engagement, empowerment, and confidence. Participates in counselling and mentoring of
  • Presents contemporary programming, using external resources (alums and experts) designed to appeal to the targeted client
  • Collaborates with faculty, staff and students with programming and events, when needed.

Required Skills


BA/BS degree required. Juris Doctor or master’s degree preferred; broad knowledge of the legal profession, 4 to 6 years combined or mixed experience in law practice, career counseling, student services or recruitment, preferably in a legal setting. Has an internalized awareness of office protocol and professional demeanor. Knowledge and experience with managing programs and leading the organization and execution of events. Demonstrates strong leadership and relationship- building skills, and experience in developing relationships. Ability to think critically, analytically and exercise independent judgment and prioritize work. Excellent written and interpersonal communication with the ability to communicate effectively with all components of the College and external constituents. Ability and desire to work as part of a high functioning team, and to lead the team in specific activities. Comfort with technology platforms and drawing from them to help inform decisions. Must be a self- starter, able to function comfortably in a fluid, innovative setting. Familiarity with employment trends. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Excellent coaching, communication, presentation, and organizational skills. Flexibility for evening & weekend work will be required; specifically, for high volume periods, and Commencement. Ability to travel, required.
