Job Description
Title: Learning and Development Manager


Reports To: Director of Talent and Culture


Education and Experience:


  • Professional coaching certification and experience desired but not required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) with experience in developing and enacting DEIA trainings, workshops, and discussions
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, human resources, instructional design, curriculum & instruction, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Minimum of five years’ professional experience providing education or adult learning development and implementation, including experience with curriculum development in the workplace.
  • Experience facilitating teams of various sizes with demonstrated success in driving to desired learning outcomes, including live and remote training sessions of various sizes


Skills and Knowledge:


  • Knowledge of the principles of professional development, adult learning theory, curriculum development and culturally responsive teaching techniques
  • Working conditions: 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Knowledge and ability to design, implement, and evaluate professional development and training activities
  • Eagerness to pitch new ideas, take initiatives, and look for opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and take appropriate action; identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of a comprehensive professional development program
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented.
  • Solid knowledge of the latest learning and development methods and tools


Summary of Duties: Develop and coordinate organizational professional development programs and events and facilitate the development and delivery of workshops that serve the professional, educational, and training needs of the Folger staff; provide resource materials to staff; and monitor professional development budgets.


Successful candidates will have experience in DEIA and/or professional training and initiatives and have a passion for building and sustaining a collaborative and creative workplace culture.


Duties:


Professional Learning and Development


  • Identify competency and knowledge gaps through various assessment tools and assist in developing targeted training and employee development programs.
  • Collaborate with departments across the Folger to define our DEIA learning objectives and design content and programming that meets those goals
  • Conduct or facilitate required and recommended training sessions.
  • Prepare and implement training budget; Ensure that training milestones and goals are met while adhering to approved training budget.
  • Analyze the organization’s learning and development needs to accelerate the Folger's objectives and priorities.
  • Maintain knowledge of new methods and techniques for training, and training requirements applicable to the organization and/or industry.
  • Solicit participant feedback, track and report analytics for continual improvement and ensure scalable and accessible programs.
  • Collaborate with vendors and third-party training providers to arrange employee registration for and participation in outside training programs.
  • Review existing training programs; suggests enhancements and modifications to improve engagement, learning, and retention and/or to meet the changing needs of the organization, or the discipline.
  • Oversee the enhancement and execution of DEIA training to improve workplace diversity, workplace inclusion, retention, sustainability, and accountability at all levels.
  • Work with existing partners, design and execute scalable trainings and programs, including toolkits, workshops, and job aides, that strive to more deeply embed DEIA through learning and collaboration.


Performance Management


  • Assist management and individual staff with identifying and arranging suitable performance improvement plans
  • Provide leadership coaching and mentorship to people managers and staff
  • Work with HR colleagues to refresh, maintain, and oversee performance management process. Ensure PM includes meaningful professional development goals as part of delivered evaluations and assist with creation of performance evaluation tools.
  • Develop essential supporting processes and materials that support proper execution of performance management program, including communications design and performance management library materials
  • Maintain performance evaluation records and share key messaging, such as performance trends and/or training needs with stakeholders within HR and in relevant departments
  • Translate performance requirements into learning and development interventions that support the effectiveness of the individual and the organization.


Employee Engagement


  • Develop and share stories on a quarterly basis regarding accomplishments with supporting, developing and engaging Folger employees for use in highlighting exciting workforce development successes in newsletters, social media, website and other public relations avenues
  • Collaborate with other HR staff and managers to enhance development of a comprehensive, engaging, and smooth onboarding experience for all employees that prepares new hires to quickly perform at a high level and fosters enthusiasm for embarking on a career with the Folger.
  • Create and facilitate monthly virtual Bag Brown sessions for staff to encourage employee engagement with colleagues and ongoing institutional work
  • Collaborate with HR team as well as with other departments to develop a robust employee recognition program that builds and motivates performance above and beyond job expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with other HR team members and colleagues from across the Folger to promote a supportive workplace culture that fosters a coach approach and inclusive culture.
  • Develop and lead programs to increase engagement and retention of Folger employees (leadership training, mentorship, management skills, customer service, public speaking, etc.)
