Laboratory Technician - Leukemia

KEY FUNCTIONS
Laboratory Testing

• Performs laboratory procedures leading to diagnosis or assimilation of data with minimal supervision. Including cell separation, DNA extraction and pCR reactions.

• Performs technical duties related to photography of specimens and distribution of materials for interpretation. May serve as an assistant to investigator during dissections or animal surgery.

Laboratory Operations

• Prepares and maintains laboratory areas, ensuring cleanliness and proper aseptic techniques.

• Operate, calibrate and maintain various microscopes after adequate training. Incorporate a quality control program into daily function.

Data Entry

• Prepares records, labels specimens for filing, and acts as curator of the files including retrieval system.

• Enters data on computer files such as spreadsheets.

Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
Required: High school graduation or equivalent.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE
Required: One year of experience in a clinical medical laboratory or similar setting. With preferred degree, no experience required.
