Position Information
The City of Brentwood Public Works Department is recruiting for a Laboratory Technician II position in the Water and Wastewater divisions. This is an journey level position that performs the full range of the sample collection and analyses tasks. Primary duties of this position include: sampling and analysis of drinking water and wastewater samples, help implement and maintain a Quality Management System (QMS) for compliance with state regulations, plus any inventory or recordkeeping associated with data management and regulatory certification. The ideal candidate is someone with laboratory experience and certification through the California Water Environment Association and/or American Water Works Association. Experience within both the drinking water and wastewater fields is also desirable.

Education/Training
Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Equivalent to the completion of an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or a related field.

Experience

• Two years of experience conducting a variety of physical, chemical and biological tests comparable to a Laboratory Technician I with the City of Brentwood.

License Or Certificate

• Possession of a CWEA or AWWA Laboratory Certificate, Grade II.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate driver's license.

The Recruitment Process Will Consist Of

• Review of applications for minimum qualifications for the position and to ensure all materials have been submitted.
• Department Interview - Applicants passing the written exam and possessing the minimum requirements may be invited to interview with the Public Works Department. The interview will cover elements of the knowledge and abilities identified in the job description. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of June 26. 2023.
• Multiple Choice Exam - Applicants possessing these requirements will be invited to a written exam tentatively scheduled for the week of June 12, 2023.
