Description
Under the general direction of the Laboratory Lead , the Laboratory Operations Lead plans and directs laboratory training and scheduling of hourly technicians, who provide timely analytical services and technical consultation to maintain the quality of refinery processes and final products in adherence to established industry standards, company guidelines, policies, and procedures, and applicable government regulations.
Responsibilities may include
Scheduling and managing work hours, overtime, and vacation for the laboratory union represented personnel
Maintaining and updating yearly training plans for hourly technicians
Investigate and implement plans to optimize scheduling of refinery product streams, special projects, and test runs
Provide LIMS/LabVantage support for refinery customers (scheduling, PI tags)
Reviewing EPA data in LIMS for accuracy versus Source documents
Attending and representing the laboratory in meetings
Supporting the laboratory in both internal and external audits
Assisting Laboratory Lead with reviewing and updating the Lab Product and streams specifications, Lab Safety Procedure Manual, and Lab Testing procedures.
Assisting with the resolution of testing and instrumentation issues
Preparing quotes and business justification for new equipment and instrumentation
Support rotating weekly on-call duties with all other laboratory salaried personnel (nights/weekends/holidays) to support refinery operations
Required Qualifications
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
5 or more years of experience working in a union represented environment
Must maintain a valid driver’s license
5 or more years of quality control experience in the petroleum or petrochemical industry laboratory
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Chemistry
3 or more years of previous supervisory experience
10 or more years of quality control experience in the petroleum or petrochemical industry
Familiar with operation and minor maintenance of laboratory test instrumentation such as gas chromatography, X-ray fluorescence, Trace nitrogen and sulfur, titrimeters, pH meters, distillation equipment, UV fluorescence and other petroleum testing equipment
Experience in a QC/production laboratory in the petroleum refining/petrochemical industry is Knowledge of applicable ASTM, EPA, Federal, State, County regulatory requirements
Demonstrated knowledge of safe laboratory practices
Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams
Ability to learn and perform all procedures used in a Quality Control Lab for product testing
Skillful in oral/written communications and in working with teams
Proficient with SAP, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
The Ponca City Refinery is located in Ponca City, Oklahoma, approximately 95 miles northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, medium and heavy crude oil delivered via pipeline from Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Rockies and Canada. Infrastructure improvements have enabled the delivery of locally produced crude oil by pipeline and truck. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke. Refined products are primarily distributed to customers by company-owned and common carrier pipelines to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
