Job Description
What to Expect
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Supervisor to provide operational support to the quality laboratory Tesla's new lithium refinery in Corpus Christi, TX. This role supports effective laboratory operations including organization of daily work, training, facilities management, and providing technical guidance for quality testing in a multidiscipline lab team. This role works closely with lab management and Tesla’s Design, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Engineering teams to coordinate cross-functional activities that improve laboratory operations with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output.
What You’ll Do
  • Facilitate good laboratory practices for incoming quality and production in 24x7 manufacturing environment including:
  • Monitor and report ongoing lab work status to lab management while driving lab operational improvements
  • Calibration and maintenance of lab equipment
  • Author/update and train lab staff on lab standard operating procedures and test method documents following existing quality system practices
  • Manage daily test requests and sample workflow to ensure consistently high level of timely accurate measurement, evaluation, and analytical services
  • Lab facilities and environmental monitoring and control
  • Utilize laboratory information management systems to track sample testing, train employees, and maintain security and confidentiality
  • Enforce lab safety practices
  • Ensure all team members working in and/or visiting the lab adhere to safety rules and good laboratory practices
  • Support a team of materials scientists, engineers, chemists, and technicians performing routine quality testing as well as extremely high priority/rapid response projects
  • Supervise the day to day work of laboratory technicians and ensure their testing is performed following established procedures through training and technical assistance
  • Lab sample management, training, and process development
What You’ll Bring
  • Proven ability to support a cross-functional technical team in a lab environment
  • Experience in Chemistry or Metallurgy field is a plus
  • Experience executing on quality control systems
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize in highly dynamic production environment
  • Detailed-oriented, able to work both independently and in a collaborative project-focused environment, excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in physical and chemical analytics, method development/validation, and quality controls
  • Previous operation and interpretation experience with any of these equipment is a plus: SEM/EDX, DSC, XRF, metallographs, Instron mechanical test systems, GCMS, ICP(OES or MS), LC, IC, or FT-IR
  • Able to work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
