Job Description

With the guidance of a mentor, the Junior Security Advisor assists in providing information security and compliance consulting and assessment services using accepted standards, frameworks, and best practices. The Junior Security Advisor assists in gathering and analyzing customer information, attends both remote and physical site visits, participates in interviews and documentation reviews, performs gap analyses, and completes reports with appropriate remediation recommendations.
Junior Security Advisors also works with experienced Security Advisors to provide ongoing consultation services to customers via recurring and ad-hoc meetings and email communications, and assist with periodic activities with customers, such as tabletop exercises, to ensure continued compliance. Junior Security Advisors may also assist with sales support in the form of conference attendance, participation in sales calls, collaboration with Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) partners, and other tasks as needed.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
With the guidance of a mentor, Junior Security Advisors assist with assessing and reporting on customer business and operating environments, network infrastructure, and policies and procedures related to compliance and other relevant industry standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting with the following:
  • This is a remote work position. Candidate must be able to work in a home office environment with minimal supervision.
  • Make recommendations for remediation steps required to achieve information security and compliance objectives.
  • At the conclusion of the assessment, the Junior Security Advisor will assist the customer with the preparation of all required industry-standard reporting obligations.
  • Ability to travel required (potentially up to 50%). CampusGuard will continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 reported cases by state. Currently, business travel is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • Consult both onsite and remotely with customers to collect, review, and analyze data related to current institutional policies, business practices and procedures, network infrastructure, IT system configurations and physical security as it all relates to multiple compliance requirements.
  • Provide in-person or remote training presentations to customer personnel.
  • Review requirements with application and service providers as necessary to achieve information security and compliance objectives.
  • Develop work plans for relevant departments by performing gap analysis of the current environment with specific compliance requirements.
With the guidance of a mentor, Junior Security Advisors use standardized procedures and methods to assist with assessing the security and monitoring the on-going compliance of customers:
  • Perform gap assessments through interviews, physical assessments, and evidence review to evaluate customer networks, infrastructure, and operations as it relates to compliance objectives.
  • Report on findings and assist customers in remediation activities as required.
Junior Security Advisors also may assist with sales and marketing activities:
  • Attend conferences as appropriate
  • Participate in sales calls as an industry expert
  • Other sales/marketing support duties as requested
  • Prepare and perform industry-related presentations and/or webcasts
EDUCATION:
  • Preference will be given to those with industry-recognized audit and information security certification(s) including Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), GIAC Systems and Network Auditor (GSNA).
  • Minimum acceptable education requirements: Associate degree, and/or 2 years’ experience in the information security industry (preferably at an institution of higher education)
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum acceptable work experience requirements: If a candidate does not satisfy any of the above education criteria or certificates, he or she must have a minimum of five years of relevant information security experience or proof of other recognized security certifications.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
The Junior Security Advisor has a knowledge of and/or experience solving privacy and information governance issues through assisting customers with privacy and risk strategies by:
  • Understanding of industry security and privacy standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, GLBA, HIPAA/HITECH, CMMC, Breach Disclosure Laws) and industry frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO)
  • Knowledge of common privacy-related issues faced by Higher Education
  • Understanding and applying technical and operational industry leading practices involving privacy regulations/standards
Knowledge and experience with consulting, implementing, or supporting privacy related efforts including:
  • Knowledge of privacy and information governance policy, notice management, and incident response
  • Understanding of data privacy programs and governance strategies
  • Knowledge of individual rights processing and consent management
  • Privacy impact, risk, and gap assessments
  • Understanding privacy controls implementation and monitoring.
  • Understanding third party risk for privacy and information governance
Creative problem-solving and customer engagement including:
  • Understanding of information systems, networks, and related security issues
  • Familiarity with Education, Healthcare, and Government institution and their structures, operations, and security needs
  • Collaborating, identifying, and addressing customer needs through relationship building and understanding customer’s business and needs
  • Communication both quantitative and qualitative analyses
  • Communicating in written, verbal, and video formats
