Position summary
We are seeking a Junior Accountant to join our team and assist with various accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accounts receivable, cash receipts and deposits, assist with monthly bank reconciliations, monthly petty cash reconciliation, act as back-up for accounts payable and other accounting tasks as assigned. The candidate should have a strong understanding of accounting principles, be detail-oriented, possess a good working knowledge of excel and possess excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Participate in various accounting projects and initiatives as needed.
- Act as backup to the accounts payable function.
- Reconcile petty cash accounts and maintain accurate records.
- Assist Senior Accountant with monthly bank reconciliations.
- Assist with the month-end closing process.
- Assist with preparation for the annual audit.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
- Assist in the preparation of journal entries.
- Record accounts receivable, cash receipts and deposits.
Qualifications and skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Experience with accounting software MIP or similar is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred not required.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance preferable with a nonprofit organization.
Salary and benefits
Starting salary at $51,558 to $74,723 commensurate with experience.
