Job Description

For nearly 50 years, the National Partnership for Women & Families has fought for every major policy advance that has helped this nation’s women and families. Our mission is to improve the lives of women and families by achieving equality for all women. Founded in 1971 as the Women’s Legal Defense Fund, the National Partnership is a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)3 organization located in Washington, D.C. with a $12 million budget and $17 million endowment.

Position Summary

The National Partnership is hiring a Junior Accountant to assist with the organization’s accounting, financial and data management processes. The Jr. Accountant is responsible for all aspects of Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable, assisting in maintaining and reconciling the general ledger, including month-end and year-end closings, donor reconciliations, bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, grants accounting, preparation of audit schedules, and other critical fiscal management responsibilities. The Junior Accountant will adhere to and seek to improve existing internal controls while complying with and staying abreast of GAAP. The Junior Accountant plays a key role in NP’s ability to meet its program goals and, ultimately, achieve its mission. This position reports to the Senior Accountant.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain time allocations from Payroll software and apply to salary allocations;
  • Managing account receivables, maintaining invoice log, reconciling receivable accounts, and follow-up on receipts;
  • Processing Netsuite account payables, maintaining current vendor list, maintaining vendor 1099 records and filing 1099 reports;
  • Assisting with bank reconciliations;
  • Reconciling company credit card transactions, obtaining and maintaining staff receipts and posting to Netsuite;
  • Assist in preparing semi-monthly payroll;
  • Maintaining and reconciling employee travel related expenses;
  • Processing all cash receipts, maintaining daily cash control report, making all deposits, preparing monthly cash receipt summaries and updating cash flow spreadsheet;

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain the department’s information and materials in an accurate and organized way with strong attention to detail
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting /or equivalent work experience
  • Team player with a positive attitude and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and GAAP
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use time management in order to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and deliver work on time with limited supervision
  • At least 3 -5 years' work experience in an Accountant or Junior Accountant position, with specific experience with Accounts Payable, Cash management and closing entries
  • Interested in expanding your analysis and knowledge about diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism and the role that racial inequity plays in our society. Committed to building and/or deepening your commitment to racial justice work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Hands-on experience with an accounting software required, Netsuite preferred
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in a smaller environment
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process

Classification

The National Partnership recognizes a staff bargaining unit, National Partnership United, affiliated with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union/IFPTE Local 70, a union for non-profit workers. This position is included in the NP United bargaining unit. Specific employment terms are subject to collective bargaining.

Salary & Benefits

The minimum salary starts at $63,654 with exact salary based on total relevant experience. The National Partnership provides a generous benefits package that includes three weeks annual vacation time, paid sick time, paid federal holidays plus the last week of December, health, dental, and vision coverage, 403B and SEP-IRA retirement options, and paid family and medical leave for eligible employees. Note that accrued vacation and sick time are currently suspended for new employees while the National Partnership temporarily offers ad-hoc unlimited administrative leave for employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, recognizing that we all have a range of caregiving needs, including self-care and care for others during this challenging time.

The National Partnership moved into a hybrid work environment where staff are required to be in the office at least 4 days per month, with additional in-office days determined by your role and job responsibilities.
