Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our Finance team as an Analyst/Accountant !


About The Role


Our Life and Retirement Accounting team is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a passion for learning and trying new things in a hybrid role of Analyst/Accountant


In the role of Analyst, 50% of your time will be spent learning the various policy administration systems, assisting in testing system changes, and project work. To be successful in this role you should have a zeal for detecting and solving problems, an eye for detail, and the ability to see the overall picture.


In the role of Accountant, 50% of your time will be focused on using your technical accounting skills, and practical understanding of accounting fundamentals. While working in a team environment you will perform accounting close activities including preparation of journal entries, general ledger reconciliations and other accounting responsibilities including automating or making manual processes more efficient.

What You'll Do In This Role


  • Conduct database backups.
  • Prepare management reports.
  • Identify areas for improvement.
  • Process daily cash deposits
  • Prepare journal entries.
  • Other duties as needed.
  • Accounting
  • Execution of projects with project lead
  • Prepare general ledger account reconciliations.
  • User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of system changes including communication of findings.
  • Prepare/provide documentation and/or other information as needed.
  • Analysis

Compensation Range: $60,500 - $ 100,800 plus eligibility for annual bonus program


Requirements


Your experience and skills


  • Organizational skills/attention to detail - work is prioritized by manager or lead
  • Communication (written and oral) - basic, clear, concise
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Accounting work experience in the financial close process
  • Computer Skills - Intermediate - Microsoft Office Suite, General Ledger Software, Intermediate to Advanced Excel (required)
  • Technical accounting knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP), life insurance accounting experience a plus
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - skills are effective for routine and increasingly complex tasks
  • Work Product - able to perform assignments independently
  • Experience with SQL data base (required)
