Are you an ambitious college reporter or creative writer who would like to use your writing and editing chomps while gaining hands-on experience writing your own articles with bylines while learning about cybersecurity and digital threats facing the finance and healthcare industries? Could you be our next Journalism/Content Writer Intern?
First the boring stuff (some basics about us)
Risk Insights Media publishes security news, regulatory updates, and industry data for a senior audience. As publisher of SecureDisruptions.com, we empower executives and risk managers to engage with complex, technical topics and make decisions that improve security across their organizations.
The nitty-gritty:
You’ll be working with an ambitious team working on big challenges at the intersection of information security and digital innovation.
For the right candidate, this internship is 100% remote. We are happy to accommodate competing priorities and arrange a schedule that fits your academic routine.
In addition to gaining practical, hands-on experience, this opportunity will help you to:
•build a strong network of leaders in cybersecurity and risk management
•apply your educational experience while earning credits
•gain professional references
Many publications expect new reporters and interns to learn by doing. New reporters can learn about new subjects by writing articles, talking with sources, and asking questions, but we don’t rely on this exclusively. We think there’s a better way.
We provide you with the kind of journalism training that we can only wish we had received as young(er) reporters—best-in-class training and ongoing editorial feedback to help you quickly learn about security topics and get up to speed while covering a rapidly changing industry.
We will work with your university to offer college credit, although it is your responsibility to arrange this. We will provide any documentation or testing your school requires for credit hours. We accept internship applications year-round.
A typical day as a Journalism/Content Intern might include the following:
•support with writing and editing accurate, original articles
•interviewing sources about industry trends and coming up with content ideas
•helping write copy for an industry podcast and weekly newsletter
You’re good at:
•dynamic writing that transforms boring B2B content into snappy insights
•distilling complex information into readable content
•ruthless editing that avoids jargon and industry buzzwords
•being clear, not clever
Extra awesome:
•interest in cybersecurity, risk management, or regulatory policy
•experience writing about technology, financial markets, or healthcare
•unquenchable thirst for new skills and learning what you don’t yet know
We are accepting applications for Fall/Winter 2023 internship opportunities.
Specific tasks will be tailored to the interns’ experience level and abilities. Strong writing chomps and the desire to learn topics is more important than meeting every qualification.
