Job Description

IT Network Student Engineer
Location:
EPRI Charlotte Office
Job Summary and Description:
The IT Network Student Engineer works directly with our IT Network team to support the operation of the EPRI network. The IT Network Student Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, documentation and resolution of problems related to the EPRI network. This opportunity will allow the Student Engineer to increase their technical efficiency in a variety of technologies and stay abreast of emerging technologies that may apply to the efficiency, stability, security, and flexibility of the EPRI network.
This position will be based in the EPRI Charlotte office and is intended to be a year-round opportunity where the student can work full time (40 hours per week) during the summer then part time (12-20 hours per week) during the school year.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist and learn networking skills to manage connectivity and infrastructure issues and requests
  • Assist and learn Cisco WebEx as a Level I support Resource
  • Coordinates with network team members to resolve problems as necessary
  • Monitors new tickets in a timely manner, accurately logging user requests and incidents, tracking to resolution within SLA and escalating to other network team members or other IT units as necessary.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of technology, equipment and/or systems within field of work
  • Alerts Network Engineers, Network Manager, and other IT units as necessary of priority 1 or urgent level incidents and/or requests
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Completes all assigned individual, team and department projects in a timely and complete fashion
  • Assist with and learn to provision and deprovision phones as requests come in
  • Responds to inquiries and requests from users for assistance with EPRI day to day operations, support, and processes
  • Acts as a customer service advocate in resolving service requests and collaborates with Network Manager and team members when conflicts arise
  • Identifies problems, troubleshoots, and provides solutions to assist users
Education & Experience:
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited university pursing a degree
  • 2nd or 3rd year student studying Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology or related field
Skills & Attributes:
Depending upon the operational needs of the department, basic to intermediate level of knowledge and skills in the following areas:
  • Local Area Network (LAN) and remote access troubleshooting
  • Ability to maintain a customer focus in providing technology services
  • Internet technology
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and organize work
  • Network and LAN fundamentals, including network interface connection and user installation, network topologies, LAN administration, servers and network architecture
  • Basic Windows or MAC system networking skills
  • Understanding of project management concepts
  • Microsoft Office Suite software, third party systems accessed software via desktop client or web-based client
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbal and written
  • Ability to operate, install, maintain, configuring and troubleshoot highly technical
  • Voice communication equipment
