Overview of the Position:

Provide leadership and training to team members, managing QA/QC tools and projects, generating reports, troubleshooting technical and customer related issues, escalating problems as necessary, and acting as a liaison with other departments and external agencies.

Additionally, this person will be responsible for ensuring SOPs are current and accurate, managing Knowledge Base (KB) articles, presenting to colleagues and customers, and facilitating as Product Owner for IT projects.

About the Department:
The City of Austin Communication and Technology Management (CTM) Department provides and empowers the City’s business partners and Austin’s residents, visitors and businesses with sustained, reliable, and efficient technology services, infrastructure, and telecommunications. By leveraging state-of-the-art tools, innovative methods, and strategic partnerships, we are at the center of shaping the City of Austin’s IT strategy.

The City of Austin’s Geospatial Data Services (GDS) is looking for a Geospatial Analyst Senior to join our production data team! GDS manages the City of Austin’s enterprise GIS data and distributes it to City users and the public.

This team includes the Addressing team, which is the Addressing Authority for the City of Austin and Travis County and maintains street centerline and addressing data. It also includes the Basemapping team, which is responsible for maintaining the City’s land use data, including subdivision and site plan data. All this data is essential for other City services including 911 response, utility access, and land development. This position will be joining other team leads to help modernize our data practices and tools.

Travel:
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Must reside in the state of Texas. This position currently is hybrid, and onsite presence is required as operational needs determine. Beginning January 2, 2024 this position will be hybrid and may require up to 3 days in the office.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with Esri’s suite of products including ArcDesktop, ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
  • Experience with editing GIS data in ArcSDE (specifically 911 Addressing, street data, or land base data), GIS data management and standards.
  • Experience with providing customer service to a diverse group of stakeholders (technical and non-technical).

Duties, Functions and Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and/or performs data management activities such as modifying elements and assigning privileges.
  • Performs programming activities such as design, development, testing, debugging, documentation, and modification of geospatial applications.
  • Analyzes data from various sources to produce data sets, cartographic layouts, and reports in accordance with specifications and standards.
  • Researches and interprets source records and documents.
  • Performs business process analysis, develops alternatives, and makes recommendations.
  • Responds to requests for information from internal and external customers.
  • Assists with the creation, publication, implementation, and improvement of IT policies, governance, standards, and security.
  • Installs new software releases and/or upgrades including researching, testing, and implementing new geospatial technology.
  • Communicates and interfaces with members of the IT, vendor, and user communities.
