Job Description

The Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) is the state agency that focuses solely on policies, programs, and services for people with mental health challenges, substance use disorders, intellectual and developmental disabilities, or any combination of these. As Georgia’s public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities and hospital services.

The main office for DBHDD is located in downtown Atlanta.


Job Title: Investigations Manager

Pay Grade: N

Job Summary:

Accurate, thorough, and timely entry of data into multiple databases.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with providers and other stakeholders, including other DBHDD offices and divisions.

Project a professional image through in-person, phone, and electronic communications.

Plan and prioritize workload to meet day to day needs.

Read, screen, and respond to correspondence in a timely manner.

Independently establish and monitor deadlines to ensure timeliness.

Execute high quality customer service by anticipating customer needs, providing services accurately, in a respectful and timely manner, and establishing and maintaining effective contact and follow through with customers.

Collaborate and work effectively as a team member.

Participates in team meetings and attend trainings.

Travel statewide as needed.

Guide the day-to-day activities of two teams of investigators to ensure the teams are running efficiently to meet established performance metrics.

Build team collaboration in a remote environment.

Supervise and direct investigators and team leads giving instructions and guidance through case supervision and developing necessary resources and tools if gaps are identified.

Participate in project development and management initiatives, internal operating procedures, and business processes.

Collaborate within the Office of Investigations management team to set office goals.

Observe, review, and analyze processes to identify inefficiencies and areas where improvements could be made.

Resolve problems encountered in the investigation process, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders as needed.

Provide investigative support as directed to other external investigative and regulatory/enforcement agencies.

Conduct investigations as required.

Assist with case management as needed.

Review findings of investigations to ensure they accurately, clearly and thoroughly draw conclusions based upon evidence, testimony and policy, rules, regulations, etc.

Delegate to team leads as needed

Participate in and lead management/supervisory/team meetings and attend trainings.


Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in quality, compliance, or investigations in DBHDD’s programs/services or with a safety net provider
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact effectively and work collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Flexible self-starter with intellectual curiosity who can autonomously assess risk and safety of vulnerable individuals

Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of related experience, One year of which in a supervisory position OR Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of related experience, Two years of which in a supervisory position OR Associate's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Six years of experience, Two years of which in a supervisory position related to the area of assignment OR Two years of experience required at the lower level Compliance Specialist 3 (RCP062) or a position equivalent.
