Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Monitors volunteers coming in/out of the Cruelty Investigations building
  • Monitors the standard maintenance of the Cruelty Investigations building and reports issues to Lead Cruelty Investigator or Director of Cruelty Investigations
  • Assists with the intake process of animals brought into the Cruelty Investigations building
  • Must be eligible to be a “driver” for the Humane Society of North Texas and must perform “driver” duties. Such “driver” duties may include, but not be limited to, driving a Humane Society of North Texas Box Truck, Adoption Trailer, or livestock trailer
  • Additional tasks assigned by Lead Humane Investigator and/or Director of Cruelty Investigations
  • Check and clear voice messages, promptly answering, returning phone calls and documenting calls on phone log.
  • Maintains database by entering accurate information on cases and animals.
  • Keep current inventory of necessary program supplies and reports shortages
  • Assists HSNT assigned staff members in the event of a disaster
  • Monitors any medical and/or behavioral needs of animals brought into the Cruelty Investigations building
  • Assists in the removal of animals in animal seizures and/or negotiated releases
  • Represent the Humane Society of North Texas by providing excellent customer service and focus.
  • Responsible for the proper handling, care and treatment of any animal brought into the Cruelty Investigations building
  • Assist Case Manager in related duties
  • Assisting staff with their duties, use of equipment and materials.

Education, Experience, Certificates and Licensing Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of animal handling experience
  • Certified Animal Technician a plus
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Animal Cruelty Investigations training a plus

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of this Position:

  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of Humane Society of North Texas policies and protocols, such as, but not limited to, adoption, cleaning and medical protocols.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.
  • Ability to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
  • Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.
  • Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized format.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Humane Society of North Texas admitting policies and procedures.
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong time management skills.
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.
  • Follow the mission of the Humane Society of North Texas.
  • Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the Humane Society of North Texas, with volunteers, the public, and be a team player.

Physical Demands:

  • The position holder must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance, up to 80 pounds with assistance.

Working Conditions


The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week.

By nature of the industry, this position may be consistently exposed to airborne particles and/or animal allergens and odors. There also may be occasional exposure to dead, sick, unruly, and/or dangerous animals in addition to exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
