The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) is an industry-wide group of more than 250 leading apparel, footwear and textile, brands, retailers, suppliers, service providers, trade associations, nonprofits, NGOs and academic institutions working to reduce environmental impact and promote social justice throughout the global value chain. Leveraging the Higg Index suite of tools for the standardized measurement of value chain sustainability, the SAC is working to transform business for exponential impact.

Position Description

This position will advance the mission and vision of the Coalition by supporting the Marketing and Communications team in engaging members and industry stakeholders through the development and execution of the Annual Meeting, Planet Textiles, Manufacturing Forums, and other SAC events.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

The Events Intern will support the Events team (MarComm) in executing SAC events. Primary objectives and responsibilities include:

• Support efforts to maintain relevant event databases and mailing lists with the Communications team.
• Assist with speaker outreach to collect bios, course materials, etc.
• Support in the research of potential keynote and panel speakers for the agendas.
• Work with the Communications team to proof content for event websites, event emails, and other event collateral; including signage, agendas, etc.
• Assist in answering event inquiries from invitees and registrants.
• Make recommendations on how to best maximize experiences for attendees: virtual and in-person.
• Support the events team with the registration platform, reports, clean-up of event data, and internal communication of the progress towards event goals.
• Update event projects in Asana.
• Support promotions, communications, and marketing plans and content.
• Support the events team with internal and external meetings with key stakeholders and partners including but not limited to Global Fashion Agenda, sponsors, speakers, and venues. Key tasks include taking minutes, assisting with agendas, and writing recap emails.
• Maintain communication with staff on the progression of the events.
• Assist events team with day-to-day responsibilities and event planning.

Qualifications

Ideal candidate has:

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to thrive in a highly challenging and fast-paced environment
• Dynamic self-starter who takes initiative; highly reliable
• Experience working with both digital and in-person hosted events
• Track record for working in a team-based, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, with the ability to multitask and handle changing priorities
• Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize
• College student, with a Marketing & Communications major - preferred
• Clear thinking and a focus on problem solving
• Excellent social skills to interact and engage with the variety of staff, members and stakeholders
• Proactive problem prevention and issue resolution ability
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

SAC seeks a candidate who is / has:

• Is motivated by the mission of the organization and knows that success comes through teamwork and strong relationships with coworkers and stakeholders
• Is interested in learning more about both digital and in-person events and the changing landscape of how to bring people together in an ever changing environment
• Has strong project management skills
• Seeks to learn the nuances of digital and in-person events in the sustainability industry and the broader global context

Reporting Structure, Timeline, and Compensation

This is a part-time role, directly reporting to the Manager, Events Production with a desired start date of May 1, 2023.

The SAC will pay $15 per hour and the contracted hours will be 20 hours per week for the duration of 6 months. We will be willing to support any key learning requirements.
