Job Description
Purpose of the Position


Responsible for providing programmatic support across the organization to enable better strategic impact. As a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team, the Intern will assist in


  • Improving internal/external DEI marketing initiatives
  • Creating a unified and integrated view of DEI related data aligned with main institutional objectives.
  • Supporting key strategic decision making, process improvement, and insight within UMA


This role reports to the AVP, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.


UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

Key Responsibilities


  • Research best practices on DEI and employee engagement to help inform strategy and initiatives
  • Assemble and summarize data, present findings, and provide decision-making support.
  • Support programming, administration, and operations for the DEI department
  • Conduct analysis of existing processes and suggest ways to improve UMA's diverse workforce
  • Assist with research, planning, and implementation of strategic DEI initiatives by supporting the analysis of data, streamlining processes, and generating reports
  • Provide recommendations on resources for building and retaining diverse talent
  • Assist with employee engagement activities including supporting UMA's Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and DEI Council


Support Institutional Initiatives


  • Participate fully in support of change initiatives that impact the organization.
  • Keep current on institutional goals, objectives, and progress


Compliance


  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements


  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to professionally communicate in verbal and written English
  • Highly detail-oriented and able to work autonomously

  • Strong project management skills
  • Analytical thinker with proven ability to solve complex problems
  • Desire to learn new things and drive operational outcomes
  • Qualified candidates will be enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in a Social Science related discipline
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Skype and Microsoft Teams


Preferred Requirements


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, specifically an ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with senior management
  • Experience creating dashboards in Power BI, Qlik, or Tableau.
  • Academic or professional experience developing statistical models or forecasts in R, SAS, or SPSS.
  • Experience or interest in the Education or Education Management industries.


Working Environment


  • Ability to work full-remote, on-site, or a hybrid attendance model
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

  • Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
  • May require occasional bending, stooping and squatting
