Today, with more than 81,000 employees worldwide, Cisco remains committed to creating networks that are smarter, thanks to built-in intelligent network services; faster, in their ability to perform at ever-increasing speeds; and more durable, with a generational approach to an evolutionary infrastructure. At the end of Fiscal Year 2022 (July 2022), the company reported annual revenues of $51.6 billion, with 3% year of year growth.

Cisco was founded on a culture based on the principles of open communication, empowerment, trust, integrity, and giving back to the community, and these same values thrive at Cisco today. Cisco’s vision is to change the role of technology in powering an inclusive future.

Government Affairs is a global corporate function led by the Senior Vice President and Chief Government Strategy Officer. The team is comprised of government and public policy experts in more than a dozen countries who represent Cisco to governments worldwide. They have extensive experience in and out of government and are leaders in the industry.

Government Affairs works to build relationships with key government leaders, educate policymakers and regulators about Cisco and the technology industry, and advocate public policy positions consistent with Cisco’s purpose to power an inclusive future for all.

THE POSITION

Cisco is looking for a government affairs and public policy professional to lead a global team of policy experts as Vice President of Global Public Policy, reporting directly to Cisco’s Senior Vice President and Chief Government Strategy Officer.

What You Do…

  • Raise a respected voice among policymakers, regulatory agencies, industry trade groups, and coalitions globally. You will represent Cisco in relevant hearings, meetings, and conferences.
  • Work cross-collaboratively with Government Affairs leadership and other senior Cisco executives, demonstrating subject matter expertise and advising on potential implications of current policy trends for Cisco’s business and purpose.
  • Advocate and advance Cisco’s core public policy initiatives, including managing our involvement with external consultants, trade associations and other companies.
  • Lead and develop Cisco’s global team of public policy experts based primarily in Washington, Brussels, and Singapore.
  • Oversee and support engagements with regulators and lawmakers around the world to advance Cisco’s policy interests at all levels of government.

Who You Are…

Ideally, you as the incumbent will be an effective advocate with a substantive background in public policy, particularly related to the technology industry, combined with the following demonstrated abilities:

  • Self-starter who can handle multiple challenges at a time
  • Efficient and influential leader who can coordinate but also empower a global team to achieve its goals
  • Results-oriented team player with a high regard for getting the job done well
  • Effective communicator that is comfortable presenting Cisco priorities to government officials and explaining complex regulatory and policy matters to senior executives across business units
  • Innovative thinker who can formulate and implement policy solutions that will benefit Cisco’s business interests and purpose

IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Overall, we believe the successful candidate will hold the following qualifications:

  • Experience in private sector government affairs is a plus, either in a corporation, consulting firm, or trade association
  • Executive presence coupled with strong advocacy, communication, and collaboration skills
  • A comprehensive understanding of the US government as well as European and Asian governments
  • Advanced degree in law, political science, or a similar field is a plus
  • Experience working with the US government and other global regulatory bodies
  • Experience leading and developing people and working collaboratively with other experts to achieve complex goals
  • At least fifteen years’ experience in government, government affairs and public policy issues affecting the technology industry

Message to applicants applying to work in the U.S.:
When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected hiring range for new hire, full-time salaries in U.S. locations, not including equity or benefits. For non-sales roles the hiring ranges reflect base salary only; employees are also eligible to receive annual bonuses. Hiring ranges for sales positions include base and incentive compensation target. Individual pay is determined by the candidate's hiring location and additional factors, including but not limited to skillset, experience, and relevant education, certifications, or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S. hiring location. The recruiter can share more details about compensation for the role in your location during the hiring process.

U.S. employees have access to quality medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a Cisco matching contribution, short and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance and numerous wellbeing offerings. Employees receive up to twelve paid holidays per calendar year, which includes one floating holiday, plus a day off for their birthday. Employees accrue up to 20 days of Paid Time Off (PTO) each year and have access to paid time away to deal with critical or emergency issues without tapping into their PTO. We offer additional paid time to volunteer and give back to the community. Employees are also able to purchase company stock through our Employee Stock Purchase Program.

Employees on sales plans earn performance-based incentive pay on top of their base salary, which is split between quota and non-quota components. For quota-based incentive pay, Cisco pays at the standard rate of 1% of incentive target for each 1% revenue attainment against the quota up to 100%. Once performance exceeds 100% quota attainment, incentive rates may increase up to five times the standard rate with no cap on incentive compensation. For non-quota-based sales performance elements such as strategic sales objectives, Cisco may pay up to 125% of target. Cisco sales plans do not have a minimum threshold of performance for sales incentive compensation to be paid.
