Description
The Hugh Downs School of Human Communication at Arizona State University invites applications for the position of Instructor. The School seeks to establish a pool of qualified applicants to teach a variety of upper and lower division undergraduate courses in human communication during the 2023-24 Academic Year (August 16, 2023 – May 15, 2024).
The number of courses and subject matter are contingent upon the needs of the school, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Instructor positions are fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications. Subsequent annual renewal is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. Specific start date within the 2023-24 Academic Year will vary based on assigned courses. By policy, the successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by time of hire.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Human Communication (not mass or media) by the time of appointment; or, two (2) years graduate coursework in Human Communication
- By policy, the successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by time of hire
- Experience in in-person instruction
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in human communication courses at the university level
- Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse students, faculty, and staff populations and communities
Desired Qualifications
- Including COM 225, 230, 259, 263, 300/400 level courses
- Demonstrated experience working with online university systems, including Canvas and Zoom
- Demonstrated expertise in lower and upper division interpersonal courses and research methods courses
- Including COM 225, 230, 259, 263, 300/400 level courses
- Willingness to teach in-person synchronous classes on ASU’s Tempe campus
