The United States District Court and United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals are now accepting applications for an Information Technology Technician II. POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to help desk tickets, phone calls, and e-mails, and log computer problems and resolution in a help desk ticketing system. When unable to resolve the concern, escalate the call as required.
- Monitor day-to-day operations of equipment and systems. Administer Active Directory user accounts. Create and run reports. Confirm that backups are run. Monitor logs to comply with mandatory reviews. Document all findings to supervisors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Maintain the operation of applications on desktop, laptop, and mobile devices (including but not limited to operating systems Windows Operating Systems, macOS, Apple iPhones, iPads, and Android OS mobile devices). These applications include Adobe Acrobat, Virtual Private Network and Remote Access Software, and Microsoft Office 365.
- Set up, configure, and install software, critical patches, and firmware. Configure and provide remote assistance for hardware installation. Assist with the creation of new user accounts and user rights management. Provide end-user training. Perform administrative duties for Microsoft Outlook.
- Assist with coordinating, establishing, and managing teleconferencing and videoconferencing utilizing applications such as Cisco Teleconferencing Management Service, WebEx, and Zoom.
- Perform system support and administration for VOIP telephone systems, such as additions, deletions, moves, and maintenance of the call center users and groups.
- Maintain contact with other information technology court personnel at different locations and levels for the purpose of keeping abreast of developments, techniques, and user programs.
- Prepare and maintain IT-related training documentation for coworkers and staff.
- Respond to after-hours and weekend security alerts.
- Monitor employee access rights and databases to ensure accuracy.
A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a computer-related certification is preferred. Other preferred qualifications include: experience working in the federal judiciary, experience with desktop support, experience working with a VOIP telephone system, and experience supporting teleconferencing and videoconferencing software and hardware.
To qualify at a CL 27, applicants must have two years of specialized experience, including at least one year equivalent to work at the CL 25 or completion of the requirements for a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and if one of the following superior academic achievement requirements are met:
- An overall “B” grade point average equaling 2.90 or better of a possible 4.0;
- Standing in the upper third of the class;
- “3.5” average or better in the major field of study, such as business or public administration, human resources management, industrial relations, or psychology;
- Election to membership in Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma XI, or one of the National Honorary Scholastic Societies meeting the minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies, other than Freshman Honor Societies;
- Completion of one academic year (18 semester or 27 quarter hours) of graduate study in an accredited university in business or public administration, political science, criminal justice, law, or other field closely related to the subject matter of the position.
Specialized experience is:

Applicants will be screened to determine their experience and qualifications.

Prior to appointment, the finalist candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete a criminal background investigation. The Court requires employees to adhere to a Code of Conduct which is available upon request. Direct deposit is required for payment of compensation for employees. Employees of the District Court, Northern District of Illinois are excepted service appointments. Employees are considered at-will and are not covered by federal civil service classifications or regulations.

- Must complete the process within two years of applying (unless there is a delay caused by the processors of the application).
