Job Description

Job Summary:

The Human Resource Manager will lead the functions of the Human Resources (HR) area including, but not limited to, hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and reviewing and implementing company policies and practices.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Recruits and initially interviews potential team members for all areas of management company and property management level roles.
  • Works with Athena sales and operations teams with hiring, coaching/counseling and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversees team member coaching/counseling meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Provides support and guidance to management, and other Athena Resource Center members when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
  • Partners with the VP of Operations and Athena’s executive team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy, particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, and succession planning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with APS preferred but not required.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Google Suite.
  • A team player with a strong ability to act with empathy, integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Inspires a friendly and relational working environment with all team members.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.

Education and Experience:

  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly desired.
  • A minimum of three years of human resource management experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Local travel 25%.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
