Job Description

ERS is a national non-profit that empowers school system leaders to make transformative shifts in resources, structures, and practices so that all students — especially those with the greatest learning needs and those furthest from opportunity — attend a school where they can learn and thrive. At ERS, we embrace teamwork and innovation to influence sustainable, equitable change in some of the country’s largest school districts.

If you want to join a team of talented and committed professionals within a mission-driven and collaborative culture, this is the place for you!

Position Overview

As our Human Resource Generalist, you will play a crucial role within our Human Resources team, operating under the guidance of the Director of Human Resources and Talent. Your leadership in organizational development, Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity (DBIE), and culture building will be fundamental in shaping our team's growth and success. You'll spearhead critical HR functions like performance management and HR policy implementation, and will nurture positive employee relations. Your role will entail setting organizational goals, executing recruitment, and ensuring the smooth operation of essential HR systems and processes designed to elevate the work-life experience of all ERS team members.

Joining us means becoming an integral part of our close-knit, collaborative team that holds equity in high regard and takes pride in cultivating a work environment that blends positivity, fun, and deep engagement. Our HR & Talent Team has a profound commitment to your professional learning and growth, and together we will lay the foundations for our mission-driven organization to continue on its exciting expansion path and to maximize its impact.

The salary range for this role is currently $84,000 to $108,000. In the spirit of transparency, it’s important to note that we typically don’t offer salaries at the top of this range to create opportunities for team members to earn raises throughout their tenure in a role. A team member’s actual salary range may be higher or lower, depending on the individual’s experience and the needs of our organization at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an HR subject matter expert in multiple domains of HR: performance management, employee relations, HR policy, recruitment, organizational culture, and enhancing equity.
  • Build cultural competency and communicate sensitively to address employee relations challenges, escalating to the Director of HR & Talent as needed.
  • Facilitate internal and external team meetings, trainings, and discussions effectively.
  • Manage full cycle recruitment (messaging, materials development, sourcing, candidate communication, and systems upkeep), adapting seamlessly to the anticipated growth and scaling of our organization in the next 3-5 years.
  • Analyze HR data, ask critical questions to interpret the data, and support root cause analysis. Communicate the analysis to organizational leaders.
  • Manage and operationalize organizational initiatives, including projects set forth by leaders or team, while developing proposals for new initiatives, both of which should be aligned with HR strategy and aimed at enhancing organizational culture and internal equity.
  • Manage and refine our HR practices, systems, and processes with the use of change management techniques, while also overseeing the organization's HR data and records, guaranteeing accurate documentation, secure storage, and adherence to regulations and privacy standards.
  • Work independently to identify prioritized projects, set achievable goals and targets, and execute the work effectively.

Qualifications

As an organization committed to developing inclusive, empowered teams, it’s important to name that candidates do not need the optional qualifications outlined below to advance in our search. These are not mandatory requirements.

  • Excel in a dynamic, collaborative environment, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork, transparency, continuous learning, work-life balance, service, and making a positive impact.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of Human Resources experience, particularly in performance management, HR policy, culture-building and recruitment.
  • A growth-mindset towards professional development and openness to feedback.
  • Strong communication skills, especially in handling sensitive topics.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in managing logistics and executing project management tasks thoroughly and on time.
  • Demonstrated expertise in inclusion and equity-centered Human Resources practices and authentic commitment to racial equity in education and building an inclusive and equitable organization.

About Education Resource Strategies

Since 2004, we’ve worked hand-in-hand with more than 100 school system leaders and several states on data (analysis and benchmarking), design (strategy, resource trade-offs, and consensus-building), and implementation (planning and monitoring). In all our work, we focus on the larger picture: how resources work together to create high-performing systems.

Our district and state partners view ERS as a national authority on school system strategy and resource use, as well as a trusted advisor and partner. We participate in the transformation struggle, create insights with our district partners, and build consensus to develop individualized, actionable recommendations.

Benefits of Working at ERS

  • Collaborative work environment: We do most of our work in teams. We bring our collective wisdom and experience to everything we do, often tapping the expertise and leadership of colleagues across the organization.
  • Opportunity for impact: ERS works with some of the largest, most influential and innovative districts in the country to truly transform their practices. Your work will change the lives of thousands of students.
  • Healthy work/life balance: We support every member of the ERS team in balancing meaningful work and professional growth with a healthy personal life throughout their career.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit: We aren’t afraid to lean into challenging conversations to inspire continuous improvement. We encourage innovative ideas, appreciate honest feedback, and invest in our team members’ ongoing learning and development.

Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Belonging

As an organization, we still have so much to learn about the continuing impact of systemic racism and oppression. We also acknowledge that we must look inward to best actualize ERS’ mission. Therefore, we strive to develop an equitable, inclusive, and anti-racist organization rooted in belonging for all team members.

We remain committed to transforming the systems, structures, policies, resource decisions, and cultural messages that are driving inequitable outcomes by:

  • Devoting organizational resources to support the ongoing learning of all ERS team members related to the causes and patterns of structural racism and oppression, how they impact the experiences we bring to our shared environment, and the ways we work with each other.
  • Helping our school district and school leader partners understand the patterns of structural racism and oppression that impact the students and families in their community.

ERS is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, ancestry, pregnancy, or military service.

We value diverse teams and the unique talents each member brings. In that light, we encourage candidates that have life experiences similar to those of the children, teachers, and leaders in the districts we serve to apply. The value we place on diverse teams is mirrored by our commitments to foster and sustain an inclusive culture.

We regularly evaluate our organization's processes and policies through the lens of equity and inclusion, and we provide opportunities for individual and organizational learning about equity, inclusion, and diversity.
