Job Description

About the CAC

The Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) exists to support transformation and inspire loving action in the world through the teaching of Christian contemplative wisdom and practices. Internally, we are working to create a healthy work environment that is grounded in the values of the tradition that we represent. Our mission drives us forward, but our team is at the heart of everything we do.

About the Job Opportunity

We are looking for an HR Manager to enhance the employee experience and champion our culture and values throughout the organization. Reporting to and supported by the Staff Director, your role will be critical in expanding the work of the CAC by creating and continuously improving the infrastructure and systems to support our people in all that we do.

In this role, you’ll support the implementation and management of thoughtful, streamlined HR processes across the board — from recruiting and onboarding, performance management, employee development, offboarding, benefit administration, reporting and general HR compliance. To be successful, you must be flexible and creative in order to adapt standard HR best practices and processes for the CAC to reinforce our core values.

In keeping with our service-oriented team philosophy, you will be an internal support for CAC employees and business partner for people managers. You will partner with cross functional teams to foster an inclusive culture where employees feel highly engaged in their roles and are able to contribute meaningfully to our mission. Our ideal candidate is an experienced and humble HR leader, with the capacity to navigate complexity and build trust across all layers of a team.

What You’ll Do…

  • Manage the organization’s recruitment and performance management programs to attract and retain top talent.
  • Collaborate with managers to support and develop their team members.
  • Manage benefits and compensation programs, in line with our financial philosophy.
  • Administer the onboarding and offboarding processes through existing HR information systems.
  • Build, implement and maintain HR processes, systems, and policies in alignment with our values and commitment to equity.
  • Own workplace compliance, ensuring that the company is following all proper state and federal protocols (currently, across 15 different states), and partner with legal on any employment law issues that arise.
  • Liaison with the finance team to ensure payroll processing is timely and accurate.
  • Maximize the value of our existing HR information systems, providing maintenance and analysis of data to inform recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain HR policies, procedures, and records.

Why You’re Right For the Job…

  • You are highly adaptable and work well through change initiatives.
  • You value diversity, equity and inclusion and you integrate it into your everyday HR strategy.
  • You are driven continuously to improve upon the systems and processes that you manage. Further, you know how to leverage data to make informed recommendations.
  • You embody the CAC’s values of humility, truthfulness, simplicity and solidarity.
  • You have a highly collaborative approach and a strong focus on internal customer service. You naturally build strong relationships with leaders and employees across the organization.
  • You are a strong listener and an adept problem solver. One of your primary goals is to make your coworkers’ lives easier.
  • You act with the highest integrity, and you understand that consistency and confidentiality are sacred values in your line of work.
  • You’re meticulous and you don’t let things fall through the cracks.
  • You naturally love to bring order and process to organizations.
  • You have a strong understanding of state and federal laws.
  • You have a genuine interest in contemplative spirituality and human development, and you’re eager to work in a mission-driven organization.
  • You are open-minded and willing to look at problems from multiple angles.

Requirements

  • Experience with diversity, equity and inclusion programs is a plus.
  • Prior benefit administration, HRIS and HR compliance experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Human Resources experience with 2+ years as a Manager preferred.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or HRCI (PHR) credential preferred.
  • Experience developing mission-aligned policies and procedures.
  • BA/BS or equivalent experience (a focus on HR or Organizational Development is a plus).
  • Prior experience with multi-state compliance and employment law is a plus.
