Job Description

Our client's work is informed by research and evidence to increase public safety and strengthen communities. The professional staff works closely with law enforcement, judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and victim advocates to develop research, comprehensive reports, policy briefs, model policies, and innovative programs that will continue to support the work of law enforcement personnel. They conduct innovative research and provide on-the-ground technical assistance to police and sheriff's departments and their municipal governments, as well as engage with practitioners from multiple systems (corrections, mental health, housing, etc.) in local, state, and federal jurisdictions as it relates to police research, policy, and practice.

Position Summary:

They seek a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join their nonprofit organization as a Human Resources Generalist. As a vital team member, you will play a critical role in supporting and managing various HR functions to ensure the organization's workforce is engaged, productive, and aligned with their mission. This position requires a strong understanding of HR practices, excellent interpersonal skills, and a passion for positively impacting the nonprofit sector.



Requirements

Responsibilities:

  1. HR Policy and Compliance: Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and practices that comply with legal requirements and align with the organization's values and mission. Ensure HR practices adhere to local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  2. Recruitment and Selection: Collaborate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs, develop job descriptions, and create effective recruitment strategies. Manage the full recruitment life cycle, including posting job openings, screening resumes, conducting interviews, checking references, and making job offers.
  3. Onboarding and Offboarding: Coordinate and conduct new employee orientation programs, ensuring a smooth onboarding process. Conduct exit interviews, analyze feedback, and recommend improvements to enhance the employee experience.
  4. Employee Relations: Act as a trusted advisor and guide employees and management on HR-related matters. Address employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances while ensuring fair and consistent application of policies. Promote a positive work environment and foster employee engagement.
  5. Compensation and Benefits: Administer and maintain the organization's compensation and benefits programs. Assist in conducting salary benchmarking, analyzing market trends, and recommending adjustments to ensure competitiveness and equitable compensation practices.
  6. Performance Management: Support the performance management process by providing guidance on goal setting, performance evaluations, and professional development plans. Train managers on effective feedback techniques and assist in resolving performance-related issues.
  7. Employee Development and Training: Collaborate with managers and employees to identify training needs and develop learning initiatives. Coordinate and deliver training sessions on HR-related topics, professional development, and compliance requirements.
  8. HR Data Management: Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personnel files, benefits enrollment, and performance evaluations. Prepare HR reports and metrics to analyze trends and provide insights for decision-making.
  9. HR Projects and Initiatives: Contribute to the development and implementation of HR programs and initiatives, such as diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, and talent management. Participate in cross-functional projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of progressive experience in HR, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proficient in HRIS systems and MS Office suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Experience in full-cycle recruitment, including sourcing, interviewing, and selection.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
