Job Description
Position Overview


The HR Advisor will be the first point of contact for early-level leaders requiring HR support on a broad range of matters such as employee development, management of employee conduct and performance, team development and engagement, selection processes, and projects.


This is a hybrid role with the ability to work from home and onsite at our various Madison, WI based locations.


Essential Duties


Include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Provide rigorous data analysis and reporting solutions based on business needs, highlighting key trends to actively drive proactive solutions to minimize reactive work.
  • Be the entry-point for leaders into the broader HR services available at the company; for example, help leaders identify and capitalize on relevant training and wellness services to strength and support their teams.
  • Gauge leader skillsets, gaps, and challenges across the supported area of the business and proactively propose training, process changes, and other measures to improve team effectiveness and employee experience.
  • Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
  • Lead and/or support a broad range of HR projects in the supported area of the business; for example, evaluating and updating employment policies and practices in that area of the business, implementing HR process or technology updates, managing change, supporting regular processes like performance evaluation and compensation reviews, or other needs as identified.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 75% of a typical working day.
  • Apply strong interpersonal skills; including, but not limited to, approachability and the ability to build relationships.
  • Conduct fact-finding, review records, and have conversations to evaluate complex employee performance and conduct matters; devise and implement appropriate response that balances organizational needs and values, employee development, fairness, and legal compliance.
  • Protect confidential information with utmost scrutiny, judgment, and care.
  • Champion the Exact Sciences culture and values in all interactions.
  • Partner with supported leaders to develop and sustain processes and skillsets to set and consistently uphold the performance and conduct expectations on their teams.
  • Lead and/or support leaders in communication with employees on challenging situations, including but not limited to identifying objectives, strategy, talking points, and appropriate documentation.
  • Ability and means to travel between multiple Exact Sciences locations within the same general geographic area.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Comply with all applicable employment laws and regulations.
  • Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Ability to act with an inclusion mindset and model these behaviors for the organization.
  • Navigate through a complex organization with multiple stakeholders.
  • Provide highly responsive, accurate, and helpful responses to leader needs.
  • Develop supportive and trusting relationships with leaders by holding office hours, attending team meetings and events, and seeking informal opportunities for connection and relationship-building.
  • Conduct and/or support all aspects of employment separations, including decision-making and documentation, communication, system processing, team implications, and safety and security considerations.


Minimum Qualifications


  • 3+ years of experience in a human resources related role.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or field relevant to the essential duties of the role such as Business Administration, Industrial or Labor Relations, Psychology, or Human Sciences; or Associates Degree in Human Resources or field relevant to the essential duties of the role such as Business Administration, Industrial or Labor Relations, Psychology, or Human Sciences and 2 years of relevant experience in Human Resources in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of legal compliance obligations implicated by each HR process and, under attorney direction, help periodically evaluate on-going compliance.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Employment law knowledge.
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM CP or SHRM SCP.
