THE ROLE

The mission of the Events department is to deliver the most compelling experiences filled with story-worthy moments of discovery and connection that deepen client relationships, bring the brand to life, drive word-of-mouth and increase lifetime value.

Aligned with the business goals, the Head of Events is responsible for ideation to delivery of these events, in the main saleroom or across the region. Fundamental to success will be an unwavering attention to detail, rigor in execution and proven ability to think creatively and strategically about event marketing.

This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to manage the delivery of special events projects. Key partners will include the Specialist Departments and Business Directors, as well as Marketing, Partnerships and Communications.

The position also supervises 2-3 staff members as well as in-house vendors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with Client Development to identify client list targets as well as producing event recaps per their needs.
  • Partner with Facilities, Gallery Operations, Security and Client Services department to plan the internal event calendar and communicate event set up requirements to ensure smooth execution of all on-site events.
  • Set and adjust budgets for each event, ensuring spend is within budget, and review with the Marketing Director and Finance.
  • Work with team members to identify their annual goals and daily priorities.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and venues to execute events on- and off-site, produce event contracts and attain certificates of insurance.
  • Run weekly meetings such as Event Forum to align stakeholders around new initiatives.
  • Collaborate with external organizations such as museums, galleries and non-profit institutions, for production of events co-hosted or sponsored by Sotheby's.
  • Oversee the execution of approx. 200 high level client events annually in the main saleroom, other Sotheby's locations, museums or resorts across the region in support of the strategic objectives of Senior Management, Specialist Departments and Brand Marketing.
  • Constantly maintain an accurate, up-to-date Event Calendar to be distributed bi-monthly to Senior Management, Marketing and Operations.
  • Oversee the design and creation of printed and electronic invitations and collateral, implement timelines and liaisie with Marketing to follow copyright and branding rules.
  • Track attendance data, provide reporting and post-event analysis to establish effectiveness and highlight learnings for future programming.

  • Excellent interpersonal, impeccable verbal and written skills for both internal and external clients
  • Able to prioritize and work under pressure, excelling in high stress environments
  • Strong organizational, project management skills with unwavering attention to detail and excellent standards; highly motivated, proactive, enthusiastic and resourceful
  • 8+ years' event marketing experience, natural flair for creative thinking, and inspiring knowledge of luxury brand building and event design trends
  • An understanding of expectations of HNWI and ability to exercise judgment and discretion with top-tier clients
  • Additional languages a plus
  • Proficient computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Reliable and capable of working well as part of a busy team, with travel, weekends and late evenings required

The proposed base salary for this position ranges from $110,000-$150,000. In addition to base salary successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus, as well as a competitive benefits package. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
