Job Description
Position Summary:
At Millennial Specialty Insurance (MSI), we’re building a technology-first and data-driven Claims organization to enhance customer experience while eliminating traditional claims inefficiencies. In addition, MSI underwrites complex insurance products that require a hands-on approach when appropriate. The Head of Claims will lead our existing claims efforts while building and improving our overall Claims organization. This position requires the ability to develop claims capabilities to serve a wide variety of insurance products. As MSI continues to create and distribute insurance products that take advantage of market opportunities, the Head of Claims must plan to support those products accordingly. The position requires an in-depth knowledge of claims handling best practices, the ability to effectively leverage technology, strong leadership, effective strategy development, and precise execution.
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Create and implement effective training and quality mechanisms for the Claims team.
  • Develop and execute effective strategies that support MSI’s claims activity, drives a culture of service, and identifies/corrects performance deficiencies.
  • Provide best in class service and support for MSI colleagues, policyholders, agents, and business partners.
  • Ensure there are effective processes in place to support all audit and compliance related activities.
  • Implement a robust fraud detection and deterrent mechanism.
  • Create a clear career path for Claims colleagues that focuses on growth, professional development, and promotions from within.
  • Ensure there are effective processes in place to manage the quality of the work and service levels for all claim vendors/TPAs.
  • Build an industry best Claims department that is relentlessly focused on innovating to improve the policyholder claims experience.
  • Ensure MSI has effective disaster recovery, business continuity, and catastrophic claims handling plans in place.
  • Ensure financial integrity through accurate and timely reserving on all claims.
  • Implement processes that minimize leakage and avoid regulatory issues.
  • Provide Claims colleagues with the organizational structure, workflows, tools, training, and feedback they need to be wildly successful.
  • Ensure adherence to claims handling best practices / service levels, claims are paid correctly / timely, and compliance with policy contracts / state mandated claims handling requirements.
  • Ensure MSI has the vendor/TPA relationships in place to effectively support daily claims handling activity for all lines of business and catastrophic events.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support for all technology related claims applications and processes.
Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
  • Highly developed EQ and leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to develop effective strategies to support the overall claims effort and the ability to effectively communicate those strategies to all levels of the organization / external business partners.
  • In-depth knowledge of claims handling best practices.
  • Ten plus years of experience in personal, commercial, and casualty lines of business.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills and ability to discern with solid decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to make decisions with the best interest of the firm, colleagues, policyholders, and business partners in mind.
  • Five plus years in a claims related senior leadership role with direct responsibility for the overall success of product performance of the claims team.
  • Ability to demonstrate the firm’s core values, exuding behavior that is aligned with the corporate culture.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field required.
  • Experience analyzing processes and developing / implementing plans to optimize both performance as well as the user experience.
Special Working Conditions:
  • Travel up to 33% of the time.
  • Fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
