Grant Development/Writing Internship (Unpaid)

Global Partners for Community Development Inc, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, is looking for an organized and energetic individual who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of underprivileged people. We are seeking a Grant Development/Writing Internship (Unpaid) to support our strategic growth targets related to mission services and development. The intern should be capable of researching funding opportunities with fixed guidelines, initiating and maintaining contact with foundations, and writing grants for eligible funding. Applicants should have strong research, writing, and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Conduct prospect research and prioritize applications based on organizational goals and needs
• Strong organizational skills
• Microsoft Office proficiency
• Internet savvy, especially using Foundation Directory or other databases
• Must be enrolled as an undergraduate, graduate, or be a recent graduate holding a Bachelors/Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
• Curious, self-motivated team player with the ability to meet deadlines and be flexible in a fast-paced work environment
• Ability to work independently and respond to feedback
• Skilled writer; excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Interest in non-profit management, grant writing, and the mission of Global Partners
• Applicants should have strong research, writing, and analytical skills

Responsibilities

• Grant proposal development (including grant writing) for the project
• The Grants Development Intern will be assigned a specific project to find grant funding for during the course of the internship
• The intern should be capable of researching funding opportunities with fixed guidelines, initiating and maintaining contact with foundations, and writing grants for eligible funding
• Support the grant application process, draft and submit grant proposals to prospective funders, noting key deadlines for submissions of letters of inquiry, proposals, and reports
• Make strategic recommendations for the best ways to connect to and cultivate potential funders
• The Grants Development Intern reports to the Associate Grant Writer & Coordinator and will work 15-20 hours per week
• Implement outreach and cultivation efforts to potential donors, including preparation of materials to support meetings with donors
• Outreach to and cultivation of potential funding sources
• Research private, corporate, and family foundations to identify promising funding opportunities for the assigned project
• Draft grant applications components including letters of inquiry, case statements, full proposals, thank you letters, and reports
• Work with Mission leadership and other support departments (HR, Finance, Data Analytics) to complete proposals, reports, and other related items
• Researching and identifying potential funding sources for the project
• Attend and contribute to Development Department meetings as needed
• The intern will take the project as far and s/he can during the course of the internship
• Learn about the funding needs and our related work and programs
• This opportunity will provide the intern with concrete skills for finding and securing grant funding
• Support agency stewardship and donor engagement activities
• We are seeking a Grant Writing Intern to support our strategic growth targets related to mission services and development
• Other responsibilities may be assigned
• Manage grant application calendars; track and manage proposal reporting deadlines, submissions, and status updates
