Job Description

Key global Electronic Manufacturing Services leadership position responsible for leading the Global Automation efforts enterprise wide as part of Creations’ Operational Efficiency team. The Global Director of Automation plays a key role in developing the overall strategy including system integration standardization, automation and the development, implementation, and performance validation of associated roadmaps. This position functions in close cooperation with the Engineering & Operations teams to translate the automation needs of the business into strategy and action.

DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify Creations’ high level assembly, system integration, and automation needs and translate the needs into strategy and action that meets or exceeds enterprise business excellence goals across Creation.
  • Communicate clear objectives within and outside of the Automation team to ensure expectations and accountabilities are understood. Establish a consistent operating rhythm to normalize collaboration and help achieve goals.
  • Develop & maintain an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the electronics manufacturing and assembly industry. Maintain a working knowledge of current equipment and automation suppliers, including their business models, products and solutions. Communicate internally the factors that may be changing and impacting the industry, and how those changes impact Creation.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership – Provide guidance and leadership to the team and to other areas of the organization that interact with the High Automation team (i.e. costing, finance, operations management, material, sites & regions) in order to achieve the enterprise goals.
  • Leadership – Develop strategic goals, provide guidance, define accountabilities for Automation.
  • Team Development - Develop a strong and capable team that functions as a unit, enabling revenue growth and financial performance that meets or exceeds established annual targets. In the process, hold the team accountable for results. Grow talent and develop successors/new Automation leaders for Creation.
  • Automation Strategy – Leadership role in Creations’ strategy process (circuit card assembly, box build assembly, high level assembly, technologies, automation, roadmaps) by voicing the needs of customers, Engineering and Operations functions. Use technical knowledge and research to help create and maintain the strategy.
  • Communicate the Automation strategy and the overall Creation strategy as it relates to operations management to the extended team including supply chain, operations, sales and finance.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships within Creation to drive execution. Serve as a key escalation point to resolve issues related to Automation.
  • Frequent travel may be required to meet the needs of the business (estimated 50%).
  • Maintain, develop and automate standardized processes and reports across global operations.
  • Support periodic multi-level internal business reviews to provide engagement at all levels of Creation and maintain consistency in the global processes.
  • Support Automation preparation for customer site visits.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Design consistent KPI’s/metrics across global enterprise to ensure documented accountability and alignment. Create dashboards with multi-level rollup to include but not limited to, Automation action and enhancement plans.
  • Ensure Automation alignment across enterprise through education on appropriate process improvement initiatives as a result of business reviews.
  • Lead the Automation team to create and execute plans to differentiate Creation service offerings to increase profitability and enhance customer loyalty.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of MES/ERP system functionality is required
  • Budgeting and capital expenditures experience is required
  • Automation and robotics experience required
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience of an automation, engineering and/or manufacturing operations team preferred
  • Electronics manufacturing and assembly experience (10+ yrs.)
  • Configuration management experience an asset
  • DFM, PFMEA, Lean/ Six Sigma Fundamentals required
  • PCBA, Box Build, Cable harness and System integration assembly processes and testing experience required
  • New Product Introduction experience is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial)
  • Certified Six Sigma Black Belt/Green Belt an asset
  • ISO 9001 and ISO 13485/FDA experience preferred. AS9100 manufacturing experience is an asset.
