Job Summary
Develop and implement a global logistics strategy that positions the business for growth and cost competitive advantage. Deploy a transportation and third-party warehousing & logistics (3PL) sourcing strategy to achieve business plan growth, productivity, quality, delivery and working capital targets by leveraging the global transportation supplier spend for all manufacturing sites, service centers and business offices. Ensure transportation and trade compliance with all regulations.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with Regional Sourcing, Global Supplier Quality, Sales, Manufacturing, Materials Management, Purchasing, Site Logistics, Legal, IT, Shared Services and Finance groups on achieving business unit goals.
- Assist in mentoring and training local Logistics personnel in best practices.
- Responsible for preferred supplier selection and lead negotiator with Global carriers and forwarders.
- Monitor, manage and administer transportation expense management system (I.e. CASS). Reconcile freight invoice exceptions. Oversees and approves expenditure payments to CASS to fund carrier payments.
- Maintain a working knowledge of world-class transportation processes to ensure that existing processes are targeted to attain excellence versus industry benchmarks.
- Monitors severe weather and geopolitical events for potential logistics disruptions. Works with suppliers and logistics colleagues to mitigate disruption to SPX Flow deliveries.
- Manages team and individual performance through training, career development, performance measurement.
- Establishes service level agreement metrics with carriers, freight forwarders and 3PLs. Monitors & manages their performance against these metrics. Conduct quarterly business reviews with top suppliers. Mediates escalated transportation related supplier issues.
- Develop strong partnering relationships with internal management, strategic carriers and business unit facilities management
- Monitors transportation usage and spend compliance with preferred carrier agreements.
- Forecasts freight inflation for annual budget plan.
- Leverages regional and global transportation spend for preferred rates and terms & conditions for transport, freight forwarding, 3PL and freight auditing. Conducts annual contract RFP’s and negotiation for all modes of transportation (Air, Ocean, Parcel, Truckload, Less-than truckload, etc) for business manufacturing locations, service centers and offices.
- Monitors country tariffs, duties and import/export changes. Communicates changes to key stakeholders across the globe. Identifies duty drawbacks opportunities and works with site logistics for recovery efforts.
- Identifies opportunities for cost savings or delivery improvement through sourcing, freight consolidation, change in mode-of-transport, demand management, etc.
- Develops strong working relationships within the Logistics team to identify and share best practices across the organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of supply chain and inventory strategies & practices; including demonstrated competency in strategic sourcing, e-commerce/information technology, and TCO/design-to-cost, design-for-service, etc.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that is fast paced and demanding
- Effective resource management and project management skills/capabilities
- Understanding of supplier capabilities and the marketplace.
- Excellent Communication Skills – logical and organized
- Highly proficient in Microsoft applications: PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
- Demonstrated knowledge of project management skills.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of contractual terms & conditions
- Ability to indirectly influence and lead cross-BU and/or cross-functional teams, including a demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally (internally) at all organizational levels and/or with outside professionals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent communications, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving/trouble-shooting skills
- Exhibits a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy
- Must be self-directed, have excellent initiative and organizational skills
- Strong logistics, supply chain and compliance experience.
- High-level negotiation skills. Competent at leading a negotiation.
- Written, verbal, listening, presentation and planning
- Works well under pressure with the ability to deliver on time
Education and Experience
- Working knowledge of import / export regulations.
- Experience leading a sourcing team for a portfolio of categories and / or products.
- International travel experience.
- Experience working in a multi-national manufacturing company.
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience in logistics & strategic sourcing.
- Experience managing a portfolio of spend in excess of $60M.
- Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business or Engineering.
- Proven track record of developing and achieving business plan metrics for supplier cost, quality, and delivery performance.
