Job Description

ABOUT THE POSITION

GIS Analyst | Tampa, FL & Orlando FL

Under close supervision receives specific assignments to conduct standard analyses of spatial data (GIS) for users. Produces maps expressing the results of analytical processes using desktop and online GIS software. Coordinates the procurement and distribution of spatial data for staff. Participates in the design and implementation of developing data management solutions. Assisting staff to understand spatial data processes while creating and maintaining end user GIS applications.

The ideal candidate would work in a hybrid capacity from VHB’s Orlando or Tampa office.

Responsibilities

  • Performs standard analysis of spatial data using GIS technology (e.g., buffering, spatial overlays, distance calculations).
  • Converts GIS data to CAD software format.
  • Participates in professional and personal development aligned with career goals.
  • Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.
  • Manages basic GIS projects or components of more complex GIS projects.
  • Performs data searches and retrievals.
  • Researches and corrects problems with data using spatial and logical analyses.
  • Uses coordinate geometry to convert surveying data to GIS format.
  • Creates and manages online tools using spatial data.
  • Extracts and organizes data.

Skills and Attributes

  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.
  • Theoretical knowledge of the principles of geographic information science and GIS technology.
  • Proficient in ArcGIS Pro.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of Global Positioning System and skill in the use of GPS technology for data collection.
  • Ability to develop and maintain online spatial data tools for non-GIS users.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.
  • Ability to express meaning through cartography.
  • Ability to utilize data transformation software as a means of importing and exporting data for use by the engineering department.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS Online and Esri mobile solutions (Field Maps, Survey 123, etc.)
  • Skill in the use of GIS software, particularly ArcGIS in its desktop and online forms.
  • Fundamental skill in applying GIS technology to solve analytical problems.

Qualifications

  • GIS certification preferred
  • BS in Geography, Engineering, Planning, or GIS (a master’s degree can be substituted for 2 years of experience)
  • 0-2 years of experience in the use of GIS technology
