Job Summary:
Responsible for working with Office of Development leaders to advance and manage a portfolio of donors in the $5,000-100,000 range. Develops and cultivates donor prospects to foster giving and ensures appropriate recognition of gifts. . Creates and implements effective strategies designed to interest, engage, and secure a wide range of major gift prospects and donors to support the capital, programmatic, research, and education funding priorities identified by institutional leaders.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in any field. Three (3) years of non-profit fundraising or similar experience. Experience working on a capital campaign, development experience or in a higher education setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Understanding of major issues and trends in healthcare and philanthropy. Grasp of the complexities of a medical center environment preferred. Ability to learn appropriate levels of information about a broad range of health disciplines and interdisciplinary areas related to campaign efforts. Knowledge of development database applications. Computer skills including ability to manage and query data in development-related database. Outstanding organizational and time management skills. Superior writing skills. Deadline-driven, with a commitment to donor relationships and the ability to independently drive multiple projects and sub-projects. Ability to build effective, collaborative relationships internally with departments, program staff, physicians, and other internal constituents. Effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders. Critical thinking skills. Ability to assess processes and work flow. Ability to maintain confidentiality on behalf of philanthropic donors and medical center colleagues.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Stewardship: Remains in constant contact with donors through cultivations letters, solicitation letters, proposals, case statements, acknowledgement letters, and more for the purpose of strategically communication with and managing donors.
  • Creates Proposals: Ensures proposals and solicitations are timely, professional, advance the campaign goals, and consistent with the mission of the medical center. Prepares correspondence, including major gift proposals/solicitations, for UMMC leadership. Produces appropriate collateral materials. Manages relationships with donors and their financial advisors to encourage gifts, as appropriate.
  • Donor Records: Maintains current and comprehensive records in the donor database and, when appropriate, in hard copy.
  • Prospect Management: Assists in working with individuals, corporations and foundations soliciting/raising major, principal and deferred gifts. Coordinates meetings and events between development team and donors. Assists with building and maintaining a development program and supporting database of prospective donor names and related information and accurately reporting achievement of established charitable fundraising goals.
  • Event Management: Collaborates with the executive and event committees to plan and orchestrate special fundraising and recognition events.

  • Fundraising: Advances a portfolio of donors and prospects from alumni, grateful patients, foundations, corporations, and friends throughout Mississippi, in the $5,000 - $100,000+ gift range. Develops and implements annual gift strategies for individual donors and prospects related to specific fundraising initiatives.

  • General Administration: Monitors requests by UMMC Staff as well as third-party fundraisers to ensure adherence with UMMC policies. Communicates with various departments involved in the approval process. Prepares articulate, tailored, gift acknowledgment letters.
  • External Collaboration: Works with Executive Director of Development and Development team to engage, inform, and work with campaign and fundraising leaders to achieve overall campaign and other initiative goals. Engages internal leaders to assist in these efforts. Serves as the liaison between leaders, donors, and the office of development.
