Job Description
Ever wonder where a city, a mountain, a town, or a road got its geographic name? Here is your opportunity to dive deep into history to learn about those names and utilize your passion for all things GIS as a Geographic Research Analyst!


Xcellent Technology Solutions is looking for someone with a passion for geography and history to support USGS in the renaming of different geographical locations. You’ll have the opportunity to research many different areas throughout the US, learn the terrain, understand the topography, and ultimately present your findings to the Board of Geographic Names. If you can picture yourself being immersed in everything geography day in and day out, then this is the place for you!


Requirements


  • Conduct research at the library of congress or other locations
  • Ability to brief and present to leadership or stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography or a related field plus three years of relevant experience
  • Attend and present information for the Federal Bureau of Geographic Names once a month a high visibility position
  • Comfortable multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to maintain an adjudicated Public Trust (US Citizen or 3 Years Lawful Permanent Resident)
  • Able to commute to Reston VA when necessary to engage in meetings with core stakeholders


Nice to Have:


  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS and/or ArcMap
  • Linguistic background
  • Experience with scripting languages (R, Python, etc.)


The role is more remote than Hybrid, however some meeting and reseach assignments need to be executed in person in order to be successful.
