Job Description

Duties

  • Plans statewide or regional direction to be accomplished, sets priorities, and determines schedules.
  • Directly supervises a staff of GIS specialists, cartographers, application developers, data administrators, database administrators, and highly technical personnel who comprise the comprehensive Geospatial Support program.
  • Participates in national calls and working groups to identify state geospatial needs and feedback for ongoing geospatial initiatives.
  • Provides professional advice, program coordination on technical aspects of GIS, global positioning systems (GPS), geospatial information dissemination, and remote sensing.
  • Serves as the State Office POC for implementation of the geospatial program and National Geospatial initiatives.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience.
You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: supervising or leading a team or organization of GIS specialists and technicians in the use of geographic information systems. This work should cover or relate to: interpret geospatial data specifications; write, review, and edit geospatial metadata; assemble and implement geospatial databases; perform structured GIS/geospatial data analysis; inspect, process, and edit geospatial data; develop spatial analysis projects and analytical reports; create digital cartography; process commercial geospatial imagery and products; implement geospatial production techniques for data collection, mapping, remote sensing & photogrammetry; evaluate, assess, and report geospatial data quality; develop distributed (web-based, mobile, corporate) geospatial information systems for decision support and analysis for internal and external customers; utilize geospatial information for decision support, including (National Environmental Policy Act) NEPA support; and provide geospatial advice and leadership.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
