Job Description
Description:

The General Manager oversees, and is responsible for, the administrative operations of the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe in accordance with Tribal policy, law, and the goals and initiatives of the Snoqualmie Tribal Council. This position is responsible for the overall planning, forecasting, and evaluation of the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe Administration programs and services.

Essential Duties:

  • Evaluate Tribal community needs, programs, policies, and procedures, with the goal of providing the best possible customer service to our Tribal Membership.
  • Review documents drafted by departments for Council approval.
  • Successfully implement the directives and policies of the Tribal Council. When requested, assist the Tribal Council strategic planning and policy making.
  • Work with the Tribal Council, legal counsel, and appropriate directors to develop, review, and revise policies and procedures for existing and new programs and services as need arises.
  • Supervise direct reports, including but not limited to, Tribal Administration Directors.
  • Ensure staff operates programs efficiently and effectively and that goals/objectives are met on an annual basis.
  • Represent the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe and maintain positive relations with other tribal, state, federal and local governments, public agencies, Tribal Members, and the general public.
  • Establish, with the Council, long-term and short-term organizational goals, and objectives. Work with staff to prepare and submit annual strategic planning documents to incorporate into the Council’s annual strategic implementation plan; ensure departments know and understand and try to accomplish the Council’s long-term and short-term organizational goals and objectives. Review the goals/objectives with staff annually. Ensure staff submits progress reports to Council.
  • Provide regular written reports to Tribal Council and maintain effective and efficient communication with the Tribal Council.

Additional Duties:

  • Attend meetings as requested by Tribal Council including but not limited to Tribal Council Meetings, special meetings, work sessions, administration meetings.
  • Ensure overall professionalism, effectiveness, and efficient management of staff
  • Other duties as assigned by Tribal Council.
  • Manage and/or assist staff to manage existing department programs.
  • Maintain positive staff morale.
  • Ensure fiscal accountability and responsibility.
  • The Tribe values its commitment to community service and the well-being of its members. In recognition of this, each employee may be expected to perform duties from time to time which may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
  • Ensure that the Snoqualmie Tribal Handbook and other policies and procedures are followed; coordinate with staff to ensure that appropriate training, as opportunities and funding for such are available, is pursued by staff.
  • Treat Tribal Council, staff, Tribal Members, and the general public in a respectful manner.
Requirements:
  • Ability to not only maintain the tribe’s current programs and services for our membership but the ability to grow and create new programs that serve the inherent needs of the Snoqualmie Tribe.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities to achieve goals.
  • Must have proficient knowledge and proven experience using a computer with Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Ability to comply with confidentiality requirements.
  • Ability to make critical decisions while following tribal procedures.
  • Knowledge of self-governance funds, policies, and requirements.
  • Ability to understand, analyze and interpret financial reports.
  • Ability to be truthful and be credible in the workplace.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Tribal sovereignty.
  • Ability to be culturally sensitive and a willingness to learn the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe’s culture.
  • Ability to work independently, under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills needed to interact with the Snoqualmie Tribal Council, Tribal Government Staff, and Snoqualmie Tribal Members

Education & Experience:

Education Required:

  • Master’s degree in Business Management and/or Business Administration or relevant field; or a combined equivalent of education and experience that demonstrates the abilities to perform the essential functions of the position is required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in direct supervision of management level staff.
  • Demonstrated budgeting experience with multi-million dollar budgets.
  • Experience in a managerial capacity for a tribal government is required.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible governmental experience, including tribal operations and multiple departments/programs.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Must maintain and possess a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.

Other Requirements:

  • Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.
  • Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation.

Tribal Preference Policy

The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe follows the Tribal Hiring Preference as outlined in tribal policies, including the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO). TERO sets forth certain hiring preferences for qualified individuals who are enrolled in a federally recognized Indian tribe, as well as, in some cases, preference for certain family members of those individuals.

Additional Information:

  • Salaried, compensation will be determined based on experience and starts at $164,306.14 per year.
  • This position is a regular full-time position and employment is at will.
