Job Description
Diversity & Inclusion are at the core of our mission to strengthen and empower the communities we serve.
Gender & Culture Writer, Reckon
Remote-Based Position
In the past few years, younger Americans have infused renewed energy and focus into reckonings with justice, equity, and power. Reckon has been at the forefront, covering these movements, issues, and perspectives, while also shedding light on the people in the South and beyond.
Now, we are taking our work to a national stage and seeking a passionate writer for Honey by Reckon, a newsletter that delves into gender, identity, and the dismantling of systems through a feminist lens.
Honey by Reckon aims to empower readers with a sharper analysis and foster more compassion for the world around them. We are looking for a writer experienced in reporting on current cultural conversations, capable of engaging readers with sophistication and style.
The ideal candidate will be well-versed in online platforms and eager to help Honey reach new audiences wherever they may be. You should understand that writing for the newsletter is just one aspect of the role; it also involves promoting Honey's work, seeking new sources and potential partners, and representing Honey and Reckon through media appearances and industry events.
Responsibilities:
*
Contribute weekly to Honey and other Reckon newsletters, focusing on analysis, original reporting and commentary.
  • Promote the newsletter, utilize analytics tools and insights to monitor and track reader engagement, and adjust content as necessary.
  • Identify content partnership opportunities with media brands, influencers, and other relevant entities.
  • Understand the distinctions between writing stories for the inbox versus writing for the web.
  • Collaborate with the audience team to develop newsletter features and sections.
  • Recognize that reader engagement and expanding Honey's audience are equally vital alongside producing high-quality content.
  • Possess a track record of writing about gender, culture, entertainment, and power.
Don't let the fact that you don't check all the keep you from applying. If you think you have what it takes, shoot your shot.
