OTHER is powered by a personalized platform designed to make contract work as simple, nimble, and lucrative as possible.

Founded by a group of freelance creatives, our strifes with contracting were common:

1. We crave novelty. Constantly rotating our clientele keeps things exciting.
2. It’s challenging to choose rates & agree on scope. Hourly punishes us for being fast & good, and fixed project rates often lead to scope creep.
3. We don’t like the boring sh*t—contracts, calls, and claptrap. Housekeeping kills creativity, and traditional agencies / in-house roles can be stifling.
4. Sometimes client inflow dries up. Most of our work comes from in-network referrals, but this can be unreliable (a.k.a. the hardest part of freelancing)

Ultimately, Other’s function is to give you agency over your freelance work so you can say “I want to freelance today”, set your availability, and start booking. No need to negotiate rates, juggle back-and-forth communication, and waste time bullshitting when you can be change-making.

Here’s what happens when you join OTHER:

You tell us…

• Your monthly & weekly rates. Our minimum is $1,500/mo & $500/wk. Working full-time at this rate would equate to a minimum of $72,000/year.
• How much time you’re available to freelance: we measure this internally using “slots”, where 1 slot = ~10 hours/week. Full-time work (40 hours/week) is equivalent to 4 slots. This is to ensure you’re not overbooked. Clients do not see the number of open slots you have. Change this at any time as your availability changes.

You get…

• A profile via OTHER. This is where clients learn more about you & make contact. We make this highly customizable—think Posts, Contra, or LinkedIn. Example profile here.
• A Stripe payment portal through OTHER to collect payments. We handle processing & fees, and you get paid with direct deposit. For atypical projects, you can also send invoices and charge special rates.

Seats for…

• Contractor-friendly terms. Whether you’ve got limited liability, you’re a sole proprietor or an unregistered entity, we got you. We handle the legal end of the work with your clients, and this only changes if they need you to sign NDAs.
• Airtable — view your incoming project requests and edit your profile details.
• Referral bonuses. Internally, we like to agree to share 10% of subscription earnings if somebody makes a successful referral.
• Cal.com — have meetings automatically booked when new clients come in, and update your work availability freely.
• Loom — meet less, record more. Reduce the number of meetings in your calendar by sending async video updates.
• Google — get a [email protected] email address & drive space.

You pay…

• A small 5% commission fee on each subscription payment you receive to cover OTHER’s overhead costs. This is only 2.1% more than what you’d pay to a payment processor like Stripe (2.9% per transaction), which we handle for you. That’s it!
