Food Scientist Jobs

We are looking for a Food Scientist to join our R&D Team in Omaha, Nebraska. This is for a position on the Refrigerated & Frozen Food Design Team.

Located along the Missouri River, our Omaha office is within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants. Join us for yoga or strength training classes offered at the onsite fitness center. Conagra's R&D facilities in Omaha are state of the art, including a large super lab, open benchtop space for prototype development, a top-of-the-line culinary kitchen, and a 50,000 square foot pilot plant.

As a Food Scientist, reporting to the R&D Director, you are an essential contributor to product development. You will bring a food forward focused mindset to improve or bring new products to the table. With a curiosity for consumer demand and food trends, you'll bring your science background to life to create products that are an asset to Conagra's portfolio.

Position Responsibilities:

• Manages individual tasks and works under limited supervision
• Maintains a clean, organized and safe work area, including the cleaning of equipment, utensils and work surfaces
• Work with pilot plant equipment under limited supervision
• Plan, prioritize and complete tasks effectively and efficiently
• Learn and utilize on-line specification system
• Creates product development schedules that are required to meet project timelines
• Drive product cuttings, plant trials, and testing
• Design and conduct plant trials and new product start-ups
• Design and execute experiments and prepare results for review
• Develop new products beginning at the concept phase through successful commercialization
• Maintain accurate and complete records
• Conceptualize and develop new products prototypes

Position Requirements:

• Ability to collaborate well with other teams cross-functionally
• Demonstrate ability to communicate well and to effectively influence and interact with others to accomplish research goals.
• Ability to independently manage project work
• BS in Food Science. MS preferred
• Requires knowledge in food product design, formulation, ingredient functionality and interaction, process design, product scale-up, plant testing and commercialization
• Pro-active self-starter, willing to accept responsibility for business tasks
• 3 years of relevant work experience
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software
• Demonstrate curiosity and creative problem solving skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Dairy knowledge/experience preferred
• Good understanding of food industry standards of quality and foods safety, and FDA regulations.

Physical Requirements:

• Use of tools, equipment, and machinery
• Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to 6 hours as needed
• Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.
• May travel up to 30% of time. Must be able to travel independently and as a responsible CAG representative.
• Work in and around cramped/confined spaces
• Exposure to food tasting and smells including all food allergens
• Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders
