Qualifications

FIRE INSPECTOR I/II+


This recruitment is open until the position is filled.

Hourly Salary Range:

Level I: $24.90 to $33.25

Level II: $30.34 to $40.50


This position is part of a flexible classification. Qualified candidates may be hired at either level based on their experience, education and training as determined by the hiring authority.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience:

Level I: Experience in fire prevention and inspection work, including a working knowledge of building construction, construction materials, fire codes and standards relating to fire prevention and investigation is preferred.


Level I
I: Requires two (2) years of full-time experience performing fire inspection duties comparable to a Fire Inspector I+ in Tempe including comprehensive knowledge of building

construction, construction materials, fire codes and standards relating to fire prevention and investigation. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in fire cause investigation.

Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Years of experience are based upon a full-time work schedule (2,080 hours per year). The sum of an applicant’s full-time and/or part-time qualifying work experience must meet or exceed the stated minimum qualification. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.


Education:

Both Levels: Requires the equivalent to a high school diploma, GED, or equivalency to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college or trade level course work in fire science, fire prevention, fire investigation, architecture or building construction. An AA Degree related to the core functions of this position is preferred.

The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college education (30 credit hours).


Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:

Both Levels:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Possession of an International Code Council (ICC) or National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Inspector I Certification, or the equivalent of a State of Arizona Fire Inspector I certification.

Level II

  • An International Code Council (ICC) or National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Inspector II Certification is preferred.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
