Financial Auditor - Behavioral Health*

The Department of Behavioral Health is recruiting for a Financial Auditor - Behavioral Health* to perform contract compliance, internal control, and financial operations audits of mental health or alcohol and drug programs and contractors; prepare and update audit programs and schedules; prepare audit reports and make recommendations; may participate in competitive bid processes, evaluate proposals, and assist contract agencies with budgetary process and state and federal regulations compliance; conduct audit conferences to discuss findings and specific compliance or internal control issues; may assist in the preparation of training manuals; and make recommendations on policies and procedures.

Travel: Travel throughout the county is required. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California driver's license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation. Mileage reimbursement is available.

Background: Candidates selected for this position must pass a background investigation and medical examination including drug screening; candidate selected for law enforcement departments, public safety positions, or positions where legally required, must pass a more stringent background check.

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent coursework. A list of accounting coursework or transcripts must be submitted if applicant does not possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Possession of an active CPA or CIA license may be substituted for the required education (license number and expiration date must be indicated on the application).
Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience performing internal or external financial audits -OR- two (2) years of experience as a professional accountant.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. In addition, governmental accounting/auditing experience, particularly for a behavioral health department, and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation are highly desirable.
