Job Description
Department Overview:
As the Finance and Accounting Analyst 2 (FA2) you will support the Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) related to our clinical practice, administrative group, research activities, and foundation accounts. Using generally accepted accounting principles, OHSU policies, and internal controls, you will be responsible for the departmental payroll process, financial variance analysis and reporting, tracking research grant buy downs, and monitoring financial results against operating and capital budgets. The position will also provide purchasing, labor distribution, expense reimbursement, invoicing, and contract support as needed.

Whithin this role you will maintain and develop monthly/quarterly Financial reporting of physician metrics, trending of actuals to budgets with seasonality to determine variances that may impact meeting the departments' budget goals.

You will work closely with the Finance Administrator and other Department managers to develop and submit EM's annual budget. As well as interact with EM providers, EM administrators, Central Financial Services, the School of Medicine, the OHSU Foundation, and Sponsored Projects Administration to ensure complete adherence to University policies and procedures.
Function/Duties of Position:
Financial Analysis and Reporting
  • Report and track monthly and quarterly financial results, Research and leadership shift buy-downs, departmental revenue streams, and payroll expenses.
  • Identify and resolves general ledger inaccuracies and ensure appropriate and timely posting of expenditures and any correcting entries.
  • Work with OPAM & HFS to maintain bi-annual effort certifications.
Payroll
  • Maintain and administer the current Emergency Medicine payroll process. This includes updating the EM shift tracking system used to track and payout for shifts worked above a provider's monthly shift target.
  • Work with the Finance Administrator to develop future payroll enhancements and efficiencies.
  • Submit monthly/quarterly payroll calculations to central payroll for processing, communicate these results to providers, and answer any payroll-related questions. Calculate monthly payroll accruals.
Financial service support
  • Support the department's other FA with purchasing, labor distribution, expense reimbursement, and invoicing, as needed.
Budget Development & Analysis
  • Assist in developing the department's annual budget for all EM locations, specific yearly events, special projects, and research groups.
Other duties as assigned & Process improvement and documentation
Required Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or other field will be considered based on other relevant work experience
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible relevant work experience
Job-Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Competencies):
  • Intermediate spreadsheet skills, including complex functions, formulas, and formatting
  • Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters/issues which may be sensitive in nature
  • Highly proficient with use of PC including database and spreadsheet applications
  • Understanding of financial reporting concepts such as cost accounting and net present value analysis
  • Experience with relational databases
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience:
  • Two years of professional accounting experience

  • Understands general principals of data collection, tracking and analysis
  • Has superb communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Project management experience
Additional Details:
  • This position is primarily remote with the need to come in to the office for collaborative team working days or department admin activities as required. This would typically be 1-2 days a month, flexibility needed.
