Job Description

Fall Arts Admin Intern

September-December 2023

20 hours per week

Hours will generally take place M-F, between the hours of 9-6pm; (Preference to someone who is available 4 PM-6 PM on Mondays during late Fall youth classes. Must be available all day Sunday, November 5th)

Collaborative schedule to be determined at the start of the internship

Stipend: $200/week

ABOUT THE THEATRE LAB

The mission of The Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts is to "transform lives through theatre education." We make the artistic, personal, and academic benefits of high-quality dramatic arts instruction accessible to youth and adults in Washington, DC. Founded in 1992, TTL serves approximately 2,500 students each year with award-winning theatre classes and programs. We make extensive efforts to serve underserved youth and adults from diverse communities, providing more than $165,000 this year in scholarships and offering innovative drama outreach programs for incarcerated youth, seniors in assisted living facilities, and homeless women in substance abuse recovery.

INTERN DUTIES

  • Assist with internal organization and research
  • Contribute to operations and maintenance of the theatrical environment
  • Serve as the on-site class coordinator for Monday Fall Youth classes
  • Aid in the creation of campaigns surrounding upcoming events, programs, or classes
  • Provide top-level assistance to the coordination and administration of Cabaret Benefit
  • Assist with the administration and marketing of adult and youth classes and TTL events
  • Provide other assistance as needed

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

• Gain experience in program management and arts administration in the non-profit field, with the opportunity for interested candidates to explore some production management

• Opportunity to attend Theatre Lab events and build relationships with leaders in the DC arts community

• Improve your skills in marketing communications, fundraising, and development

• Work directly with top-level theatre artists, educators, and administrators

• Opportunity to enroll in any Theatre Lab classes at no cost (virtual or in-person) through the end of 2023



REQUIREMENTS

Successful applicants should possess at least one full year of business, liberal arts, arts management, communications, education, or arts-related study at the college level or equivalent experience. Excellent judgment, and good written and verbal communication skills are essential. Candidates must be able to work independently on tasks and to ask for direction whenever needed and should have a passion for arts education. The job requires lifting, up to 20 lbs. periodically.

School Credit and Time Commitment: If the applicant is pursuing an internship for school credit, the intern will be expected to provide all forms and school documents to the Program Coordinator to ensure that all school requirements are met. The internship requires a 20-hour week minimum. Interns will be required to adhere to the negotiated schedule.
