BACKGROUND
Since the launch of the first Sports Biz Camps program in the summer of 2019, Sports Biz Careers has grown from an entirely volunteer-led organization with an $30,000 operating budget to an organization that has three (3) full-time employees, five (5) part-time employees and an operating budget of $650,000 in 2023.

SUMMARY
SBC seeks a dynamic, proven, and innovative leader who will drive our mission forward and guide the organization as it transitions from a start-up to sustainable.
As the senior staff leader, you’ll be most responsible for executing on a vision that will drive fundraising, continued growth and long-term viability of the organization. This work will be done in partnership with members of the Board of Directors, SBC’s co-founders as well as continued support by an engaged and talented staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • People & Relationship Management (30%): Overseeing up to three (3) direct reports in addition to stakeholder management (BOD, Coaching Tree, etc.)
  • Administration (20%): Leading and working with 3rd party partners on all issues related to finance, legal, compliance, HR
  • Programming (10%): Supervising program delivery (% indicates approximation of total time spent)
  • Fundraising (40%): Driving revenue through donor development strategy and implementation, fundraising campaigns, and grant opportunities
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience motivating and collaborating successfully with volunteers
  • Commitment to building a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable community where all people can thrive
  • Highly detail-oriented, well-organized, flexible, and collaborative individual who enjoys working in a team-driven environment
  • Personal track record of success in reaching and exceeding fundraising goals
  • Demonstrable leadership experience
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, and retaining staff
  • Willing and interested “coach” to support staff, both part-time and full-time (2)
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships of trust and respect with development staff, colleagues, volunteers, and donors
  • Excellent communication skills in written and public speaking/presentations
  • Track record in supporting successful fundraising campaigns and initiatives
  • 7-10 years working with (for) nonprofit organization
  • Demonstrated project management, organization, delegation, and prioritization skills
  • Proven ability to establish objectives, set performance standards, and organize and motivate a team to achieve goals
  • Experience working in the sports industry and/or education is preferred but not required
Location: Hybrid
  • Candidate will be asked to establish a consistent presence in Charlotte, NC where the organization is headquartered.
  • Both full-time staff members are Charlotte-based and the majority of the program’s operations and funding emanates from Charlotte.
Compensation:
  • $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 SALARY per year
  • Commensurate with skill and experience
**Includes opportunity for annual bonus based upon organizational performance

How do we bring that mission to life? Fully funded programs connecting sports industry professionals directly to high school and college students. Professionals share their pathways, and advice, and help these students navigate challenging transitions from high school to college and college to career.
  • Career Readiness programs support college students by building their social capital and connecting them to careers.
  • College Readiness programs support high school students with increased awareness of careers in sports and support towards making an informed college decision.
2022 Impact:
  • $25,000 awarded in college scholarships to participating students
  • 435 high school and college students served across 12 states
  • 490 industry professionals from 140 different organizations volunteered
Our Impact (Since 2019):
  • 130+ students have enrolled in ongoing development programs
  • 35+ high school alumni currently enrolled in college
  • $90,000 in college scholarships awarded to 100+ participating students
  • 1,000+ high school and college students have participated in programs
  • 15 college alumni currently working in sports & entertainment industry
Our Supporters:
Sports Biz Camps has attracted support from 400+ individual donors and raised more than $1,200,000 since 2019. Additionally, many sports organizations have made financial contributions, including Truist, On Location, Keurig Dr. Pepper, NASCAR, BODYARMOR, Fox Sports, Octagon Sports & Entertainment, CSM Sport & Entertainment, Cast Iron Media, and Navigate Research.
