Job Summary

The ESG Associate supports the management of First BanCorp’s (“Corporation”) sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) program; collaborates with the executive and senior management leadership, and multiple teams within the organization to develop and assist in the execution of ESG initiatives; gather, analyze and interpret relevant data to compile reports; prepare presentations related to the Corporation’s ESG program, including, but not limited to, the Board of Directors, ESG Committee and other stakeholders; engage with ESG rating agencies and prepare responses to customers and shareholders request for ESG data or information when needed; and stay current on sustainability and ESG topics by regularly performing research and analyses.

Essential Functions

  • Support in the management of the Corporation’s sustainability and ESG program execution (i.e., planning, execution, and reporting)
  • Collaborate with the executive and senior management team, as well as multiple teams within the organization, to develop and execute sustainability and ESG initiatives.
  • Develop data quality assurance and data controls to track the Corporation’s ESG metrics.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in other aspects of reporting and disclosure, data verification processes and internal status reporting.
  • Participate in the evaluation of leading reporting frameworks and develop recommendations for the Corporation’s future reporting.
  • ESG research tasks, including data collection, monitoring, analyze, tracking and reporting.
  • Assist in responses to shareholders and other stakeholders’ requests for ESG data or information.
  • Engage with ESG rating agencies, and provide relevant information related to the Corporation, including reviewing data assessed by third party sustainability and ESG raters and submit corrections when necessary.
  • Stay current by conducting research and analysis of sustainability and ESG topics.
  • Develop and deepen understanding of sustainability topics.
  • Prepare presentations for the Board of Directors, ESG Committee, and executive and senior management, as requested.
  • Coordinate the production of the annual ESG report and maintain the ESG/Sustainability presence on the Corporation’s website.
  • The individual will serve as an ambassador for the Corporation’s ESG program and is a subject matter expert relating to ESG analysis, data collection integrity and other related projects as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has not direct supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, management, information technology or related area. 1+ year in financial analysis, project management, data management or another related field. Experience with ESG or corporate sustainability matters preferred. Understanding of some or all the following standards and frameworks: SASB, GRI, TCFD, and CDP. Or the equivalent combination of education and experience needed to be able to perform the functions of this job.
