Job Description
What to Expect
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated, goal-oriented Industrial Engineering Technician to help implement Engineering and Lean Principles to the manufacturing process of our cutting-edge Model S/X/3/Y products at the Fremont Factory. Through a detailed understanding of the factory objectives and extensive collaboration with internal and external teams, the Industrial Engineering Technician will help improve processes to increase overall efficiency, capacity, quality, and safety.
What You’ll Do
  • Create and validate time studies in various work areas, while reporting improvement recommendations to leaders
  • Assist Industrial Engineers in developing and deploying efficient systems to integrate production associates, machines, material requirements, and information to achieve optimal manufacturing processes
  • Improve workstation safety and ergonomics
  • Collaborate with Production Management and cross-functional support teams to identify manufacturing constraints and execute solutions accordingly
  • Recommend and implement updates to Standard Work documentation to increase overall efficiency of operations through Production Change Approval process
  • Assist Engineers and Production Management to plan work assignments based on production associate performance, machine capability, and production schedules
What You’ll Bring
  • Ability to collect statistical production cycle time studies, analyze data, and optimize process. Working knowledge of 5S principles, Work Measurement (MODAPTS preferred), JIT, Kanban and Problem Solving Methods
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Visio is a plus)
  • Ability to prepare diagrams to illustrate workflow, part routing, floor layouts, material handling, and equipment utilization
  • Understands the definition of Takt time, target cycle time, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE); in-depth understanding of Line Balancing methodologies
  • Moderate data analysis skills – Tableau/Splunk/SQL/Python knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematic drawings and formulas
  • Ability to create multi-process workstation layouts, standardized work, staffing and process maps to execute a successful rebalance of workstations as needed
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills. Conflict resolution and change management skills are a plus
  • Ability to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
