Under general supervision, the Engineering Coordinator serves as the liaison between staff and other departments regarding the preparation and maintenance of the Community Investment Program (CIP) budget and processor of CIP expenditures.

**Examples of ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**

  • Provides technical support and information to engineering staff, contractors, and the public.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
  • Updates departmental website information.
  • Prepares financial worksheets for Council agenda items, funding modifications, and transaction adjustments.
  • Requests vendor information and updates to ensure timely payment.
  • Assists Accounting department with project information audits.
  • Prepares correspondence regarding CIP projects.
  • Assists in the preparation of the CIP budget with the Budget, Accounting, and Purchasing departments; enters project data into the CIP database.
  • Processes payments for private development projects.
  • Maintains project status updates and reports for departmental staff, private, regional, state, and Federal entities.
  • Creates CIP requisitions, purchase orders, and check requests; processes and monitors CIP encumbrances and expenditures; reconciles account ledgers,
  • Assists with private development project releases and right-of-way permitting.


Marginal Duties


  • Typical Decisions:** Incumbent determines effective ways to assist other departments and/or staff in interpreting budget and accounting reports to ensure appropriate resource management and to provide accurate engineering information and explain permitting and plan review procedures to citizens, staff, and developers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Education:** Associate's degree in Business Administration, Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience:** Six (6) months of technical engineering support experience.
  • Knowledge of** : Principles, practices, and methods of budget analysis and accounting related to the development and monitoring of CIP budgets; basic knowledge of civil engineering techniques, construction practices, standard engineering design principles and techniques; engineering record keeping requirements and the City's development process; standard office procedures and equipment.
  • Skill in:** Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; organizing and maintaining records, providing effective customer service and managing conflict; working without direct supervision and adapting to changing priorities; reading and interpreting financial ledger documents, civil engineering drawings, established codes, standards, and specifications; operating a microfiche and microfilm reader; operating modern office equipment.


Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements


  • Licenses and Certifications:** Texas Class C driver's license (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law).
  • Conditions of Employment:** Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check.
  • Physical Demands and Working Conditions:** This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.


Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
