RECRUITMENT EXTENSION NOTICE
The recruitment period for this vacancy has been extended to allow for a larger applicant pool. If you have already applied there is no need to reapply.
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region Design and Engineering Services is looking for a flexibly staffed Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What You Will Be Doing
EA1
This position under the Engineering Assistant (EA) 1 level will consist of performing entry level engineering tasks under the direct and detailed supervision of a lead designer or the engineering manager. Assigned tasks will include assisting in the planning, design and construction support of a wide variety of projects, including engineering studies and the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates for highway, aviation and marine transportation projects.
EA2
Under direction, the Engineering Assistant (EA) 2 performs intermediate level engineering duties, applying accepted engineering practices in the design of roads, airports, harbor facilities, utilities, and other engineering projects. This position requires an intermediate amount of supervision and project assignments are less complex.
EA3
Under the general direction of a registered professional engineer, perform journey level design engineering duties for capital improvement projects. Work includes research, development, and final production of project plans, specifications, estimates, and other engineering documents. Typically this position is the lead for mid-level projects and assists higher level engineers with more complex projects.
Our Organization, Mission, And Culture
The Design and Engineering Services Division provides a wide range of technical services to the department, other state and federal agencies, local governments, utility companies, and the public. You would contribute to accomplishing our mission by:
  • Providing high quality Engineering services that are practical, effective, timely, and fiscally responsible.
  • Instituting new technologies and processes that identify and inventory existing infrastructure.
  • Coordinating with State, Federal and Community entities.
  • Assisting with preliminary engineering & technical guidance to deliver highway, aviation and marine projects.
  • Encouraging and building professional relationships with peers and the community at large.
The Benefits Of Joining Our Team
The Design and Engineering Services section provides an excellent place for ABET engineering graduates of all types to broaden their engineering knowledge while advancing their careers, traveling throughout the Southcoast Region, and serving the needs of the public. We are committed to ensuring that our staff experience the pride of public service while also sustaining a routine that supports life outside of work. We support various work schedules including allowing an alternating schedule to provide team members a day off every two weeks, and unlike most other jobs our schedule is based on a 37.5 hour work week not a 40 hour work week. Telework may be an option following the initial probationary/training period. We encourage life outside of work by being flexible to meet needs or requests. We want you to come live, work, and play in Alaska with us!

Southeast Alaska is an area of unique habitats surrounded by temperate rainforests on steep-sided mountains, glaciers and marine waters presenting abundant recreational opportunities and even exceptional engineering design challenges.
