Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary teams and will support or lead design efforts related to new product development projects, through all phases of the project lifecycle including definition, conceptualization, design execution, documentation, design verification, and production release.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate, test, debug, and implement electrical hardware and/or firmware designs
• Support brainstorming activities to investigate unusual design challenges, and apply state-of-the-art technology to their solutions
• Support a development of the product design requirements and system architecture
• Develop analog and digital circuit designs for subsystems or systems based upon requirements
• Written communications in a structured, regulated environment
• Follow Battelle processes and procedures. Participate in the process improvement efforts.
• Verbal presentations to management, clients, and vendors
• Generate appropriate design documentation
• Complete projects and tasks within budget and schedule, communicating results and progress in written and oral communications to project leadership and commercial clients

Key Qualifications

• Be an advocate for continual improvement process and technology initiatives
• Demonstrated work experience with electronics laboratory equipment and test methods development
• Experience with analog, digital, and electro-mechanical circuits and components, which may include voltage and current regulators, FETs, LCDs, microprocessors, relays, motors, switches, solenoids, etc.
• Good communication skills (verbal and written)
• Excellent oral/written communication skills to support interaction with cross-functional team members and internal management
• Knowledge of troubleshooting/ fault isolation techniques
• PC-based analysis and simulation tools
• Work effectively independently or as a member of a project team
• Schematic capture (i.e., Altium, Orcad) and circuit board layout
• Creative problem-solving skills
• Experience with integration of hardware and software/firmware systems.
• Candidate must be self-motivated, organized, and a problem solver who works well within a team
• B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline AND 2+ years of relevant experience; or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education/experience in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using structured methodologies and analysis techniques such as simulation packages, tolerance analysis, experimental design, and evaluation
• Experience with communications and interconnects standards and protocols including USB, I2C, RS232, RS485, CAN, Ethernet, Bluetooth, and/or Wi-Fi
• Background in medical products operating under a registered QS and under FDA Design Controls
• Working knowledge and experience in risk analyses (i.e., ISO14971)
• Working knowledge of the product design process, electronic manufacturing processes and design documentation requirements
• Experience with safety standards (UL, IEC, TUV)

Travel Requirements: Up to 10%

Citizenship: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance
