Position Summary:
The DEI Associate is a member of the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Team within the Stakeholder Engagement department and provides project, reporting, and administrative support for DCCC DEI programs and initiatives. One of the associate’s chief responsibilities will be to find meaningful avenues to support employee education, systems review, reporting, and communications to execute program objectives while ensuring a fluid work environment. This role requires high attention to detail, critical thinking, exceptional interpersonal skills, heightened awareness of organizational impact and ability to manage multiple priorities.

The Associate must be able to effectively present information to team members, public groups, and/or external stakeholders. They must also have the ability to interpret instructions across various formats– written, oral, diagram, calendars–and the ability to solve practical problems in a setting where only limited standardization exists. This role engages with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including partners and allies, and Members of Congress; the ideal candidate will be familiar with or at least comfortable with communicating at these levels.

The Associate should have an interest in keeping up-to-date with workplace diversity issues and be prepared to work in a collaborative effort with various departments in the planning and preparation of events, programs and conferences to ensure DEI considerations are met. The Associate would be responsible for learning, researching, and understanding DEI best practices and developments that may affect DCCC policies, procedures, and/or practices.

This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Provides key organizational and managerial support in aligning the Committee’s strategic goals with stated DEI commitments
  • Manages the department and Chief Diversity Officer schedule, logistics and drafts memos/presentations for events, meetings, and trainings
  • Monitors and updates diversity celebration calendar, including (but not limited to) developing and maintaining programming such as organizing guest speakers for a “Listen and Learn” series and handling logistics for diversity event celebrations
  • Coordinates with other departments to develop and maintain projects and programs to center DEI development in each department
  • Manages the DCCC’s Employee Resource Group program, including acting as liaison to and developing strong relationships with ERGs and respond to diversity- and equity-related issues as they arise
  • Collaborates with DCCC’s Intern Program Coordinator on intern recruitment and hiring, to ensure that incoming intern classes are diverse and inclusive
  • Creates and publishes DCCC’s Monthly DEI Newsletter
  • Coordinate in developing and maintaining programming including various diversity celebrations dedicated to increasing the workforce cultural competency
  • Alongside the Chief Diversity Officer and Diversity Director, manages various day-to-day operations such as department tracking, assisting in the management of expenses, handling correspondence, external and interdepartmental scheduling, and responding independently when possible
  • Implements, monitors progress, and recommends adjustments in connection with the Strategic Plan for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as developed by the DEI extended team
  • Assists Diversity Director in screening and reviewing incoming resumes for the entire committee
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Experience at a congressional office, campaign, advocacy organization, association or foundation is a plus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues like access, equity, diversity, inclusion, implicit bias and institutional racism.
  • Strong knowledge of the Washington, DC legislative, public policy and political environment is helpful. Demonstrated interest in the DCCC’s mission, goals and key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills. Experience in working effectively and influencing decision makers with a variety of personalities in a fast-paced, progressive environment.
  • Proactively fosters an inclusive atmosphere and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Adept at Excel and experienced in translating data into meaningful charts and dashboards.
  • Commitment to the election of Democrats to the U.S. House of Representatives.
  • Personal and professional commitment to promoting and investing in cross-cultural skills and awareness related to individuals from broad backgrounds, races, ethnicities, religions, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability;
  • Sound decision-making ability using judgment and ingenuity while keeping brand protection at forefront.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a timely manner. Careful attention to detail, accuracy in performing job duties and acts with a sense of urgency.
  • Polished, professional, and effective presentation skills for all audiences and levels within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence – the awareness, knowledge and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant and productive ways;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Proficiency in G-Suite preferred
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain professionalism and a positive outlook.
  • Broad understanding of the diverse House Democratic Caucus, including all its supporting caucuses (CBC, CHC, CPC, CAPAC, New Dem, Blue Dog, etc.)
