ABOUT THIS POSITION:
Expected Hiring Range: $67,018 - $82,097. A starting rate above this range, but within the pay grade may be considered for highly qualified individuals. Full salary range: $67,018-$103,878
Work Location: 73 Hunter Street Apex, NC 27502
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm with potential of a hybrid work environment that allows working both remotely and on site. Evenings and Saturday work occasionally required.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING (DESCRIPTION):
Under the direction of the DEI Director, the DEI Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives in support of the Town’s strategic plan, to create a learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed. The position will work within teams to develop, support, implement and champion diversity and inclusion initiatives with the Town and the Apex community. The position will provide public outreach to Apex’s diverse communities, support and produce special community events, workshops, and community conversations on diversity issues. The position will support town-wide efforts to promote volunteerism and civic engagement, facilitate community collaboration and partnerships, and support town-wide efforts to provide culturally competent community programs, observances, and services.
ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build relationships with diverse communities to increase awareness of Town’s policies, programs, services, activities, and volunteer opportunities;
- Coordinate various DEI internal and external initiatives on behalf of the Town;
- Participate in continued DEI trainings and certifications for ongoing professional development;
- Develop, coordinate, and implement public presentations and community conversations about diversity issues;
- Serve on Town committees and subcommittees as needed;
- Establish a knowledge base of best practices and available resources for cultural competence and equity;
- Improve outreach and engagement to build relationships to under-represented communities and establish trust and understanding;
- Collaborate with other Town staff and departments, community groups, businesses, and cultural groups to ensure diverse and inclusive special event offerings;
- Provide periodic written and oral reports;
- Collaborate with peer organizations throughout the region to share and learn DEI best practices;
- Support, produce, promote, and evaluate special events and performances that increase opportunities for cultural interactions, education and understanding;
- Serve as resource for internal and external issues relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
- Performs other job-related tasks as required.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED (MINIMUM MUST-HAVES):
A Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, human relations, organizational development, business administration, public administration, sociology, psychology, or other related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two or more years of experience advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in a complex organization. Certification in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is highly desired.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work pressure, disturbances of work flow, and/or irregularities in work schedule are frequent and require significant adaptation. The work environment rapidly evolves, requiring continual upgrading of skills. Work is mostly sedentary and confined to an office setting with periodic outside activity for training and intervention. Extended work hours are common. Physical exertion includes standing during training, carrying materials and hand-outs, flip charts and other audio-visual equipment. Early morning, evening and/or weekend work occasionally required.
